If you beat someone up, and if the victim goes to the hospital, do you have to pay for their medical bills?

Hope this question didn’t shock too many of you, but as most people should know, it’s absolutely wrong to beat the crap out of someone. I saw a video on YouTube about a teacher taking her students Nintendo switch away, and then the student got very angry, he literally and brutally beat his teacher up, she could’ve died, she survived the attack but had to go to the hospital, and yes that student got arrested, and if someone beats up another person, and if the victim goes to the hospital, of course the person who attacked should go to jail/prison, but not only that, the attacker should pay for their victims medical bills, is that how it works? Because I don’t know whether or not it works that way, I hope it does, so does it? The student is named Brendan Depa, have you heard of him or seen the video? I don't know if he has insurance or not, but if someone beats another person up just like Brendan did, jail/prison shouldn’t be the only punishment, but also paying for the victims medical bills.

If it happened on school grounds the school is liable for the medical bills and suitable compensation for failing to protect the teacher. The child's parents might be sued though you can't get blood from a stone, chances are the child's parents have no money. The teacher lost her job that she had for 19 years and her health insurance, along with the physical, emotional and psychological harm she should be adequately compensated.

This boy probably has been allowed to get away with this kind of behaviour for years because he has autism and believing he would never face any repercussions for his actions felt confident beating the shit out of his teacher. This 6ft6 220llb thug will soon learn in prison about consequence.

Yeah all us teachers have this fear cause if we fight back or do any discipline we are abusing the students and we get let go.

Even saying no to a student now is abuse according to parents who baby Thier kids and expect every one else to raise them!

You potentially mix up criminal prosecution and civil prosecution. The state would want the perpetrator to go to jail, a private plaintiff would seek financial reimbursement for the hospital, lost wages, etc.

You might but you will end up in jail too. Getting in fights is not like you see on TV. Usually one guy goes to the hospital and the other guy gets arrested.

Medical care should be universal so the bills are irrelevant.

I'm a teacher and have gone for medical care twice from student violence. My insurance paid the bill n I paid the copay.

In UK no. Medical care is free. But expect charges and possible a civil action
