It's a bill introduced by the House Democrats that would conduct a legally binding referendum in which Puerto Rico would choose between Statehood, Commonwealth status and independence.

Also, a common talking point after Pelosi's visit is asking "how would the US feel if a top Chinese official said we stand with the people of Puerto Rico". Oh the irony.

Puerto Rico was literally the worst, most shitty place I’ve been to in my life. It was really, uh, sad and eye opening. The roads. The murders. The trash. The violence. The trash. And the trash. @guy13 DC is part of Maryland and can't support itself without the Federal Government. When we move the Federal Government the city would largely cease to exist.

With its legal status incompatibility defined in the Federal Constitution in Article 1 Section 8 Clause 17 and the 23rd amendment, would make D. C. a very strange and hard to accept as legitimate state.

Puerto Rico is however possible, with the main problem being it has no partner making it into something of a power grab further destabilizing the existing union.

Guam could be such a partner if you could convince them to get over their hate for the Northern Marianas, so that together they might be almost large enough.

@Ad_Quid_Orator The island is certainly entitled to independence or commonwealth status. Statehood requires the other states to agree to an equal footing and that takes a long time and usually a political partner.
