Why do many people get so angry when you disagree with something they say or believe?

I mean look at the social media... Once you state your mind about something and someone disagrees, most likely, it'll turn to an ugly online argument with people calling each other names, etc... Why so angry?

Anger usually becomes a factor when someone is lying. It could be either you or them, but if you are reliably pissing people off it's more likely to be you. Or at least that used to be the case. These days with whole counties of far right disinformation bubbles you could easily be the only person who isn't lying.

People attach themselves to their ideals curiously permanently. If you share an opinion or, worse, facts that contradict someone’s ideology, they will react confrontationally. It’s easier to assume you are an enemy than to question their own knowledge and beliefs.
An exceptional investigation of this behavior is included in “Being Wrong” by Kathryn Schultz. If you read nonfiction, i highly recommend this book.

Because the ruling elite has people brainwashed to hate and attack all opposing views. Ruling elite have to keep us divided or they could risk us banning together and overthrowing them. Social media and Main Stream Media are some of the many tools used to keep us divided.
