Who should get reparations and how much? What if you’re half black? 10% black? What if some of your ancestors were slave owners and some were slaves, what should you get then? How should you prove your ancestors were slaves? What about those that don’t have proof? You want the government to dedicate time and resource to try to dig in each persons ancestry? Who’s gonna pay for the digging? Who’s gonna pay for the reparations? The government? Then that’s tax money coming from everybody, including blacks and Asians and so on. Should white people get a bill to pay or have to pay extra tax? What about all the white people who don’t have ancestors who were slave owners? How are they gonna prove it? Government digging again? Or should they have to pay anyway? Why? What about all the black slave owners and their ancestors? What about the Africans who sold your ancestors as slaves?
People don’t seem to think before they talk about wanting reparations. Like dude you were never a slave, it ended 157 years ago, so shut the fuck up and move on with your life. You don’t see for example the jews constantly playing victims like that for things their ancestors, or even living relatives, went through. I do not support ANY reparations. Nobody is alive today that had anything to do with slavery. The debts of a parent are not for the child to pay. The Civil Rights Act put an end to this issue and so have many other laws. Blacks have just as much opportunity as others and they were not the only ones ever enslaved.
In the U. S. there is no excuse for someone to not succeed if they have the drive. There are ways for anyone to succeed if they have the will to do so. Don't have a computer? Go to the library? Cannot afford private school? Pay attention to what the teachers tell you. Are you homeless? There are resources for that.
At this point, the only thing holding blacks back are their own excuses. MANY MANY MANY blacks have overcome both their own backgrounds and racism geared against them to succeed. I do support it, under specific conditions though. Someone needs to have been a slave and the money has to come from the slave owner that owned them.
Then I 100% agree with that. There is already existing laws in place for that though, so no new laws need to be passed. If someone is forced to work or be a slave and not get paid, they can get it from them... if they have assets.

I think it would have made sense to give land to freed slaves in 1865, but the ancestors of slaves have benefited from living in the US since then and it does not benefit the country to have people looking for reparations rather than working to better their lives. It's devastating to a society if people don't believe that they have a chance and reparations furthers that mindset.
One of my grandfathers was a slave during WWII, which is a lot more recent than 1865. No one in my family goes around demanding reparations for it.
