There should be reparations when it can be proven that one's ancestors profited in any way from Black slavery.

When you step out of those boundaries, this kind of bold question becomes less justice and more of a propaganda tool for the KKK and other white supremacists and trumptards to use to depict anti-racist militants as unreasonable, crazy, irrational, etc. (See other comments below).

When it comes to "all white people"... it's like wondering if all Black people should be granted compensation, even in cases where their ancestors never left Africa and/or never were enslaved. Not all people of African descent were enslaved and it is not true that all white people profited or even approved of slavery.

The best way to make it up to the descendants of slaves would be to keep fighting racism with a vengeance and to keep promoting true socioeconomic equality for every single person until it becomes a reality.

How dumb do you have to be to believe in that? If you really believe in "reparations", then you believe every population that's enslaved another throughout history should pay reparations. This includes black people well, since they're not the only ones enslaved but were also enslavers as well. If you want to go down this rabbit hole, do whatever you want. I personally don't believe in this concept unless there are people who still enforce this system to this day, and I'm not one of them and don't respect people who think that I am.

1. Those pirates were muslims linked to the Ottoman empire. Some of them may have been Black, but the barbary pirates also enslaved Black people and other muslims, along with white or non-white christians.
2. They didn't specifically target white people as it was the case for Black people during the time of the atlantic slave trade. It was more like: "let's get anyone we can get our hands on", during raids.
3. As far as I know, they didn't justify their actions by saying that white people were an inferior, barely human race, who benefited from their enslavement, a race prone to criminality and barbarism, as it was the case in the south prior, during and even after the civil war.
4. Raids in northern places like england, Ireland, iceland were the exceptions, not the rule. They mostly concentrated their activities around the mediteranean sea and the the black sea.
5. After the first and second barbary wars in the early 19th century, those activities suffred a rapid decline and became more the business of criminals than a state-sanctionned trade.
6. In the United States, Black slavery did not cease until slavers were forced into freeing their captives after losing the civil war in 1865. By then, most european nations had already banned and condemned slavery. Who knows for how much longer the south would have held to their slaves if the civil war didn't happen?
7. Can you prove that one of your ancestors was in fact enslaved by the barbary pirates? It would seem more likely, considering the way you seem to think, that your ancestors could have been linked to the slave trade, and/or the confederacy, and/or the KKK, and/or the lynchings or racial purges that happened all over the United States during the late 19th century and the early 20th century (provided, of course, that you're an American).

Bottom line is Black people just out competed the rest of the world at producing slaves and selling them at market. They were really good at selling their own people out for a payoff. Obviously they had a much longer history of slave trading than the Europeans. It was a core commodity of their local economy. Experience gives you a leg up in a field of business. Everyone was fair game before liberty minded White people, said this slavery thing just isn't right, we need to put a stop to this... That didn't stop Blacks in Africa from trading slaves though. They were the last group on the planet to stop. Basically they ran out costumers, and the domestic demand wasn't high enough.
