It is a problem but I don't know that I would call it "contageous." Or at least there are two main variants. 1. There are those who want attention and pity will do so they act the victim all the time. These people are annoying but anyone who sees it can tell it's kind of a meaningless life and it doesn't catch on, except perhaps to those who are already meaningless. And 2. There are those who have a scam they want heard and know if they look like a victim people are more likely to listen to it. This is a little more dangerous because sometimes it works (i. e. the Republican party) and when talentless incompetent people are looking around for a way to get rich quick, the only check on their temptation to lurch down that well paved golden road to being a political scammer is how insanely crowded it is.

IMHO the problem is education system telling people everyone is special and all opinions matter. No they fucking don’t. So you have all these people having gone to school thinking that way & reality hits. No you aren’t special, most people don’t care about your opinion, you’re going to end up working somewhere you have to not that you want to.
