Do you consider Turkey to be a Middle-Eastern/Muslim country? Or do you consider it to be a European/Caucasian country?

Going by PERSONAL feelings and not geography, do you consider Turkey to be more European or more Middle-Eastern/Islamic?

I always considered Turkey to be super-Islamic in culture and unofficially part of the Middle East, just like Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, and Pakistan unofficially "Middle Eastern" too. (And apparently, Sudan is also?) Not that I have any strong feelings on it, one way or the other.

Hmm, I’d say blend of cultures, close to places like Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan but very westernized. Istanbul is the biggest city in Europe?

Sudan is African for sure, Pakistan is south Asian for sure, N Africa is majority Muslim and Arabized but I would call them N Africans not Middle Easterners

Mesopotamia, Levant, and Arabia make up the Middle East to me, Persia seems almost Asian to me for some reason. I worked with a guy from Afghanistan and I first asked what his ethnicity was and he said, “Asian” so I’ll go with that they’re Asians (except Istanbul, they’re white)

Not quite. On the official maps, Sudan is considered to be part of the Middle East. And Pakistan is super-Islamic/Muslim, which would make it part of the Middle East in culture too, of not officially.



And "Asian" is mostly known as an ethnicity (Oriental/Southeast Asians), even though technically yes, Indians and Russians would be considered "Asians" due to living on the continent as well. But nobody thinks like that, just like nobody thinks of Brazilians as "Americans."

that symbol looks quite identical to the muslim symbol

and correct if I'm wrong but the Muslim religion originated in the Middle East. I guess the people there appear light skin and almost caucasian is because that country is colder compared to the rest of the middle east

Actually, Muslims didn't originally use the star and crescent and it only became so because the Ottoman Empire was for a long time, the most powerful Muslim empire. Before becoming Muslim, Turks practiced Tengriism which practiced sky worship which is where the symbol came from.

I chose C. There is also a part of Turkey that is neither Caucasian nor Arab. Lots of tribes.

I think of South Africa. Or anywhere in the Caribbean. If something was brought to you from outside, taught to you... are the Africans now British? Sowm of them are half , and some Brits are now born in Africa... but not everyone is British.

Well it's a Muslim country for sure.

But I think they flip flop between being Middle Eastern or European depending on what's convenient for them.

Middle East with European aspirations. They have tried to join the European Union but were rejected for economic reasons and they not sharing western values. Another factor often overlooked is if Turkey became European we'd share a border with Syria, Iran and Iraq. Turkey is a convenient buffer zone.

Erdogan have connections with the muslim brotherhood, turkey used to be more secular and westernized than other muslim countries but in the last years turkey is going back to it's islamic roots.

I think both its above Syria it's like Azerbaijan literally in the eastern European region and right above Iran same as Turkey but with how big it is is it shares borders with the middle east. So because half of it is in Europe and thr other Half is middle east I just say both. Although Turkish women are sexy af tho

Only a little western bit is European. The capital is in the Asian part. The Caucasus is in the area where Armenia, Georgia, and Azerbaijan are located, although many Turks, just like many other Middle Easterners, are considered ‘White.’ Morocco, Tunisia, and Algeria ain’t Arab countries, and in Pakistan, they don’t even speak Arabic, let alone not being Arab! Furthermore, some European countries are Muslim, like Albania or Bosnia and Herzegovina.

I think it looks like a Middle Eastern/Islamic country because of its current government and policies. But Turkey is a secular and democratic country.

Turkey is simply between EU and Gulf and their culture at least today is open minded and gear towards EU as compared to GUlf, so call it Eurasia i guess

Yes. It was once the heartland of European civilisation and Christianity until it was stolen by the invading Muslim turks.

Maybe 800 years ago it was Caucasian but it is very much a Middle Eastern country now.

It is European and Muslim. It was in fact Christian from 1st century AD although it is now only 3-3½% Christian
