GDP alone does not speak to a lot of important socio-economic factors, like how productive the workforce is, disposable income, income equality, quality of healthcare & education, and many more. Any country with a very vast population like India can achieve relatively high "absolute" GDP numbers, it doesn't mean anything.

A more accurate measurement regarding the productivity of a country's economy is the GDP per capita. In that, the United Kingdom has about 20 times the amount of India. India is at 144th position out of 194 economies, they do not come even close to be considered a developed country, which is the most important thing here, as GDP per capita determines the quality of life within a country. For reference, the average monthly salary in India is ₹32,840, people in the United Kingdom earn that in 2-3 days.

A large absolute GDP and a powerful army may be useful for the people in charge of the country, but for the other 99,99% of the population, it doesn't mean anything for their quality of life.

With the 2nd highest number of people, and soon to be #1, passing China, it makes sense that India's economy would be high. But its per capita economy, which is a better indication of the economic health of a country, is still pretty low.

Don't make me laugh, India is still a cesspool, since most of the wealth is acquired by a chosen few. The vast majority still suffer from poverty, corruption and lack of sanitation. Why else do you see so many Indians trying to move out? They don't have human rights there.
