Is India a 3rd world country?

yes it is. it's not gonna be a second world country any time soon, cause i don't see any efforts of india to join any sort of "western world alliance" like NATO. cause that's how the classification goes.
1 world = industrialized democracy within the sphere of American cultural values.
2 world = Communist-socialist country within the sphere of russian/chinese cuktural values
3 world = any country not belonging to either (which india is in)
4 world = basically indigenous/tribal cultures.
so as you see this isn't really a classification of "good or bad", where 1 is good and 4 is bad. it's just an arbitrary classification.
The term "third world" was created by industrialized countries to make their economic models and cultures appear superior and to justify "economic assistance", which is another word for imperialism. As far as the west is concerned, happy people have no value unless they are providing trade, labor and profit for the west.
For example, small farmers and sustainable communities have to be driven off of the land and into ghettos and slave labor factory jobs. Then the vacant land can be gobbled up by wealthy private investors.
The only way India, with is rich history, culture and resources, can be considered "third world" is if it isn't fully westernized.
And, at this point, if you look around, the U. S. is a third world country at this point.

No, the term "third world" was created to have a separate group for those nations that were neither US- nor USSR-aligned during the Cold War.
I don't know I've never been there. Even African countries have impressing city centers in bigger cities but the impression ends when you drive through suburbs and further. While in first world countries even furthest rural areas look clean and well maintained.
yes and no. the poorer part of India is. But the part were the rich live no.

Yes , but people really don't understand what 3rd world means. Switzerland is also a 3rd world country. During the cold war the world was divided into, 1st world - usa and ussr. the 2nd world - the countries that allied with either usa or ussr. Then u had the 3rd world or the non-allied countries, meaning those that were neutral and not allied to either. So it does not imply development at all. Like for example, Pakistan is a 2nd world country, because they are an American ally. However, they are really lower unfortunately than ever 3rd world. So it's a very misinterpreted word.
No. India is basically halfway through heavy industrialization and about to overtake China in the near future.
The 3rd world designation is rather stupid to start with but either way its better to consider them in a transitional stage. Fun fact, they are about to build their own powerblock right now, meaning they will be independent from all other major powers such as China, USA and Europe.
@leopard23 I don't get it. The folks who call themselves conservative claim that a healthy country has a high rate of murder, poverty, uninsured for healthcare, etc.
But then point the finger at India for having less crime, murder, and a dropping poverty rate. Soon they will surpass the United States.
Make it make sense.
Yes, very much so. Other third world countries like Turkey, Mexico and South Africa for instance, still have entire regions that are extremely developed, but India is different. Yes, some areas may be modern and of course there are wealthy people everywhere, but the standard of living is still very low and they still have the same problems as in other parts of the country, and you still feel you're in a third world country
i'd love to see india come up in the world. unfortunately the powers that be don't let it
India is an emerging nation like China (1 billion in poverty), Indonesia and Brazil. And like the USA in 1900. A few big cities and otherwise agrarian.,
I heard lots of people go hungry in India, if you can't eat or struggle to eat as a nation then you are a 3rd world hell hole.
The porper term is developing nation and yes.
India's superpower is street pooping. I know, not as glamorous as some superheroes.
There might be a couple of modern cities but the majority live in poverty m
I don’t subscribe to ranking countries in meaningless categories
If India is 3rf world country than America doesn't exist in the world.
Yes they are
I would consider India to be so.
Just like UAE, yes.
Lol. Both things can be true, you know.
@Trackboy yes it is
