California has had the most mass shootings of any US state for the last 40 years. Texas isn’t even close by comparison.

Your article captures a 38 year period from 1982. It would be interesting to see which way states are trending over say the last 10 years. But we all know everything is bigger in Texas, so I have every confidence Texas will be No. 1 soon. If not, it won't be for a lack of trying.

Texas will never surpass California for mass shootings or gun violence in general because they’re stricter on criminals. Like too many uninformed people, you’re conflating making firearms accessible to law abiding citizens with gun crime. The correlation is statistically anomalous. California has only responded to mass shootings in which the majority of the victims are white or white adjacent. They’ve done literally nothing to get guns out of the hands of known criminals, like gang members with fully automatic weapons acquired illegally. Until they do something about THAT, they are in no danger of losing the top spot. Texas has barely half as many mass shootings, and a little over a third of the gun violence California has because when they catch a violent criminal, they END their career in crime more often than not. They actually SEIZE more illegal firearms than they do in California too. As long as California lawmakers are more interested in punishing law abiding gun owners than criminals, they have no hope of losing their top spot for mass shootings and gun violence in general. Don’t lose track of the fact that mass shootings account for a very small percentage of overall gun violence and that the vast majority of that is committed with illegally obtained firearms.

Actually, what you did was create a conclusion absolutely NOT included in the article. Since i disagreed with that plainly erroneous conclusion because of other facts that are pretty widely understood, i felt it was appropriate to share.
