Neo-Nazis in the USA for those of you who seem to not pay attention to the "Jews will not replace us" & the openly flying Nazi flags around the country that many people on the right seem to have a hard time condemning.

Actually, at the risk of being really pedantic, if they are flying a Nazi - presumably you mean a swastika - and engage in a Nazi salute - presumably the arm straight out and elevated? - and wear a swastika openly you are NOT a fascist. You are a Nazi - more accurately a National Socialist. (Nazi is actually an acronym in German.)

Please note, Fascism and National Socialism are NOT the same things. The conflation of the two was born of the German (Nazi) - Italian (Fascist) Axis alliance in World War II. However, that is an error.

Fascism is a philosophy that places its' emphasis on the "corporatist" state. That is the state organized much like a company, with a presiding officer to whom all report and with a distinct hierarchy with the leader at the top. The state is all encompassing and may not be questioned. However - and this is important - the state makes no distinction among its citizens. Anyone who is a citizen of, and loyal to, the state, is a cog in that machine and no distinctions are made.

This is critical to recall because - at least until Mussolini's war effort began to falter and he became more reliant on Germany - Italy made no distinction among its citizens and thus Fascism initially drew the support of the small Italian Jewish community. Italian Jews viewed a race neutral dictatorship as an assurance of their safety in a society where anti-Semitism was common.

By contrast, National Socialism is a variation on Socialism. Only whereas the socialists (and communists) saw class war as the driving force in History - with a capital "H" - the National Socialists saw the Darwinian competition of the races as History's engine. To the National Socialists then, the state was merely the vehicle by which the master race asserted its dominion and was the vehicle by which that race exercised its' dominion over the lesser races. Thus, in Mein Kempf did Hitler assert that the party was above the state.

Again, this is in stark contrast to Fascism's view of the state. The alliance of the Fascism and National Socialism was one mostly of convenience, The exception being that strong anti-communism of both philosophies. Fascism because it rejected socialism's/communism's goal of the "withering away of the state." National Socialism because it was in an almost theological argument with socialism/communism over the nature of History's engine and reality.

So in answer to the question: "If it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck..." it is not a Fascist. Probably a National Socialist, but definitely not a Fascist.

As someone who's Jewish and descended from Holocaust survivors, I have a pretty good idea of what actual Nazis/neo-Nazis are like, in part because I know the dangers they can pose to normal people they decide they don't like. And it's the actions of people in power are the most indicative of Nazism, something the Biden Administration has amply displayed.

But if you're into symbolism, Biden's recent speech was definitely fascist, including its optics.
