Isn't the poor little guy rising to the top with hard work to make something of himself the American dream?

I don't know that any such plan is in place, in theory however depending upon the in field employment rate of the students from that school.

This would be a prudent choice to cut their funding to protect kids too young and naive to know the value of the dollar or any particular profession from wasting years of their life seeking an 'education' that will only put them in enormous amounts of dept with no job to show for it.

In the book, he talks about non-traditional students. Like grown adults stuck working a dead-end job, people from the navy, or someone stuck in poverty with limited education. They had been out of school for years, and there life going nowhere. They need remedial classes because they can't remember what they learned in a text book years ago. These are adults he's talking about fresh faced 18 year olds.

I don't see the relevance of the distinction in age. if you have never worked or learned the value of the dollar your still a kid and can or will be sold a useless education by a lot of schools.

That said a large share of the adults i knew who went back to school were just taking advantage of the effectively free to them money having little to no intention of learning anything useful.

Well, there is no "right-wing" monolith that wields so much power that it makes budgetary decisions on its own, and I doubt anyone is cutting community college budgets either, something that is funded at the state level. Leftist policies like open borders hurt ordinary people more than anything else.
