Eh, not really insane but I’m not some logistics expert or anything. I mean every now and then you DO hear about a pipeline spill.

Jesus never mind man. I just looked up “List of Pipeline Accidents” on Wikipedia and they have them all broken down by every YEAR. In each year there were multiple MULTIPLE pipeline accidents or failures:

I sort of randomly picked 2010 as I was scrolling:

“On April 5, a crude oil pipeline ruptured near Green River, Wyoming. At least 84,000 US gallons (320,000 L) of crude were spilled. Corrosion in the pipeline was the cause.”

Holy shit. And that’s just ONE incident in 2010.

“The Red Butte Creek oil spill. On June 12, a Chevron crude oil pipeline was damaged by lightning and ruptured, causing 800 barrels (130 m3) of crude to spill into Red Butte Creek in Salt Lake City, Utah. Crude then flowed into a pond in Liberty Park.”

Yeesh.

There were also several incidents involving deaths, but some of these seem to be from natural gas pipelines or propane pipelines that exploded or got damaged somehow.

I mean at least with tanker trucks or trains the incidents seem to happen less often. I don’t know though. I’m inclined to the trucks and trains because I’ve had family that worked in freight and rail, there are so many safety checks, the rigs are maintained, no one wants an auto accident or a big insurance problem, so I’m inclined to think that they would be safer also, because if they do flip or crash, I mean the semis are on a highway. It’s not like it’s going to seep into the ground and pollute waterways to the same degree, a pipeline just cuts right across the land. How often do they really check the lines for leaks? 🤷‍♂️

The Alaska pipeline has a stellar record and the check them all the time. They fly the entire length of the pipelines for inspections. I’ve flown the missions. It’s a blast. It’s low level terrain following flight

In a decade, you won’t have to worry about it when you’re driving your new EV. Makes no sense to invest in oil infrastructure at this point. The handwriting is on the wall.

You’re not a very forward thinking individual are you? Right now a considerable amount of fossil fuel is used to build and power them. That’s why transitioning to renewable energy, and probably supplementing with nuclear is going to be absolutely necessary, as well as developing a more eco friendly battery. The goal is to eventually reduce greenhouse gasses to a level that halts the damage we’re doing. Even if you’re a flat earther who rejects science and reason, it makes sense for the consumer. Electric rates are less volatile than oil prices are. We won’t have to worry about foreign wars or OPEC production cuts affecting our fuel prices here. Also, once production facilities are dedicated to EV’s the sticker price will come down to make them competitive and there is less maintenance over the life of the vehicle. But again, resistance is futile, the wheels are already in motion and you’ll adapt just fine. You’ll probably even be glad you were grudgingly dragged along for the ride.

Undoubtedly pipelines are more efficient but will there be payback? It is possible there isn't if you are shutting down the oil industry for example.
