Should pickup trucks be banned?

Question

We have just had a terrorist attack killing 14 people and a pickup truck was used as a weapon, a few hours later another pickup truck loaded with explosives was detonated outside a hotel.

Is it time to outlaw these weapons of mass destruction? When do democrats start ranting about banning pickup trucks? Will it be because most people that drive pickup trucks are Trump supporters?

If we outlaw pickup trucks only outlaws will drive pickup trucks

first off, those weapons are already illegal, blowing crap up, killing people is also kind of against the law as well so there are plenty of laws on the book about that.
I guess you could try to make a case for banning pickups, good luck as the US would grind to a slow halt, including democratic businesses that use them, then the terrorists would use cars, so now you have to ban all cars, and since an electric vee hickle was also used you now need to ban all electric vee hickles, and remember 9-11 was airplanes so those need to be banned, the Oklahoma bombing was fertilizer and diesel fuel in a rental truck, so you need to ban rental trucks, diesel fuel, fertilizer, and wire was used in bombs so ban that, all of those vee hickles had tires on them, so ban all tires, bat trees were used in the bombs so ban those, some terrorists have used the internet, so ban that, they have used phones, so ban those, they probably drank coffee so ban that, they used roads to transport the devices so all roads now have to be banned so in reality where do you start banning things and where do you stop? Be it something democrats use as well as republicans, and the third party.
They will just find another way to do what they want to do.

Ban those "assault vehicles". Or at least require background checks and waiting periods to rent or own them.

The bomber in Oklahoma in 1995 didn't use a pickup truck - but he used some other truck that was enclosed.
Pickup trucks have been around a long time and are used by construction companies, farmers and so many other ways that I don't think it's necessary to ban them.
People will find a way to do what they are going to do to get the job done - even if it's running down people or blowing up things with bombs.

Couldn't a drone be used to mow down people in a crowd? And also have bombs in them to blow up things?

I know this is meant to be tongue-in-cheek, but as of four days ago, class C motor-homes,

Ford F-250's and Chevy Silverado 2500, Dodge Ram 2500, and some Nissan Titan models are officially banned in my state. (the sale of new ones)

The only silver lining is, lots of Democrats are going to be furious. But they voted blue, so they made their beds. I feel sorry for the dealerships and construction workers.

And unless things change, the sale of new gas cars will be banned in 13 states.

Ban? No. Maybe we should start regulating how big they can be though. Trucks in the US can be quite large compared to other counties, which can cause quite a bit more casualties without getting damaged itself. Sure, some jobs could require a truck that big with that much power, but for the average person—especially in a heavily populated area? Its completely unnecessary.

It would be like having a truck with bullet proof glass. Why do you need that? Are you planning to do something that would cause people to shoot at you? It's far more important that the windows be breakable in case you or passengers need to escape the vehicle after a wreck. It should always first and foremost be a vehicle.

We need federal laws with a registry before buying a truck. The Microsoft AI running the questions would check text messages and phone calls for things like.

"Jimmy jo, dat ain't no deer over thar, that a tree... ya can't shoot it".

"Hey, can we buy more fertilizer cause I need about 100lb of nitrogen for a project".

"This sucka fast... I'm gonna run over anything I want to... it's an F250 baby..."

The difference is pick up trucks are not designed as a weapon. The IRA used several types of vehicles as car bombs from small hatchbacks to large vans. No one called for their ban. What does need addressing in America is the graphics on that truck. When you're shoving that level of hate down people's throats all day long it inevitable leads to violence.

So if they start using box trucks, like they used to, they will be banned too? They used the next biggest vehicle to the box truck because they don't have to worry about going through check points. You can drive a pickup truck anywhere without having dot stop you. If you drive any type of box truck you'll get stopped at every checkpoint you come across

Absolutely. We can't have ANY weapons that can be used to kill people. That includes pickup trucks, ANY electric vehicles because they are too heavy, and too quiet (you can't hear them coming until it's too late), airplanes (remember 9/11?), and knives, baseball bats, ANY nitrogen based fertilizers. The list is going to grow substantially in the coming years as terrorists discover new ways to use common items to cause mass killings. We need to be proactive and ban EVERYTHING now, before more innocent people are killed.
