actually, the newer ones, left unmodified do not emit black smoke.
With the urea burners their tail pipes are no longer black.
What you are seeing in that picture is one from before those emission controls came into effect, and they have a larger fuel pump and a larger turbo.
The more fuel and air you can shove in there the more power you can make, but then that happens, and you burn more fuel.
Some view it as a status symbol.Diesel trucks are more fuel efficient than a gas engine, esp when you are working them.
They produce more power on less fuel, run longer than their gas counter parts, but now the payback takes longer, but if you haul heavy loads daily then a diesel is what you need.

No. Trucks should be outlawed except as needed for work.
Frankly I've never understood why they do that anyway. They could use the money for other things instead of modding their trucks or using diesel in their trucks.

They don't blow black smoke that unless they are running very poorly.
Diesels pollute less than gas engines. They have better fuel economy. They have more power. And they last a heck of a lot longer. They are also more expensive. But many people think the extra cost is worth it because of all the benefits.
Not many people really need a diesel, but not many people have them either.
Regular people are also those who, as you said, work on farm, have a small home business of any kind of delivery, any sort of job where transportation or just moving from point a to point b is required. Diesels, especially in distant relations are in general more efficient, when it comes to consumption.
What you are offended of is the car culture, and even of that a small subset. The trucks “rolling coal” have had the emissions controls modifies. That’s a Federal offense and a $45,000 fine with the EPA. There is no reason not to allow private citizens to own diesels. Farmers, construction workers, boat owners or anyone who pulls heavy loads needs the bottom end torque of a diesel.
It's not the shitty American made trucks that are the problem, but the low quality diesel fuel they are burning.
There is more cleaner burning diesel available, which doesn't burn to such a dark cloud, in some places. But it makes the diesel a tad more expensive.
Most don’t smoke unless they’re race trucks or tuned wrong.
But to answer the question, that smoke is just harmless soot that falls to the ground and they’re far more fuel efficient and tend to last longer if you get rid of all the emissions garbage that destroys these engines
That person in the picture is "Rolling Coal!" That is a modification that is done to the ECM to allow more power (?) and to blow the black cloud of smoke! Some people think that it is cool to do. Black smoke is unburnt fuel besides being a waste of fuel and clean air! Newer unmodified trucks run a lot more efficient and cleaner than the one in the picture.
We do own them. What’s up with Controlling Communist wanting to Control movement. You are going to regret your statement
Sure… and I also strongly support people own their own biodiesel refineries. If you can run your vehicle on used French fry grease, owning diesel can be affordable and environmentally friendly.
According to some people's logic - it's not the truck that pollutes, but its owner/driver :)
The trouble with fans of fuckup trucks is, that you mentally can't reach them.Oddly enough the black smoke you see have larger particles that settle to the ground and end up not polluting the air as much as gasoline powered engines.
Yes but I do think people should use their brains and ask themselves do I need this.
They don't blow black smoke if they are running right
If most people owned diesel trucks it’d be a problem. But you’re creating a problem out of something that doesn’t exist
It's not that they are bad some think that it's cool to blow the black smoke also known as rolling coal diesel trucks can haul heavier loads
As opposed to irregular citizens?
yes. Diesel is more efficient than gasoline cars.
Yes there are advantages to having one.
Exactly
