Should they ban people from riding on the back of a pickup truck?

As for my dad he always had a pickup truck & growing up we always rode in the back unless we were on the highway of course. The state I lived in passed a law & that kind of ended that however some laws have loop holes & if you are in a seat with some kind of safety belt there is nothing they can do about it. The state I live in now I see people riding in the back of a pickup all the time so it’s probably ok.
Depends on your state, its 100% legal here... as people here don't like the government to be overbearing and controlling of its people, we like freedom.
Once you go down the path of its for your own safety, before long everything can be rationalized, its for your own safety. Where to stop is the question.
Every October through December, people will load up their trucks with kids and others to go see Halloween decorations or Christmas lights, and in the summer time they do it to head to the drive in movies.
Almost no one ever gets hurts or dies from it by the driver of the truck, it is usually other drivers who cause accidents and deaths those other drivers should be charged with man slaughter for killing everyone in the back of a truck instead of outlawing.
Leave it legal, but if you cut off a truck or are at fault in an accident, all those deaths should equal one man slaughter charge. If the driver is at fault, it should be them.
It's been against the law for many years now. Not only people can't ride that way, but there are no dogs allowed to ride in the back of a pickup truck..
Having your dog ride in the back of your pickup truck was very popular way back when. But that was before our population grew so much and traffic started to get worse. I didn't like it when I was driving behind a dog in a pickup that had the tailgate down. They would get very restless and almost fall out. I can see why nothing living should be banned from riding in the back of your pickup truck. People can die if you get in an accident. They would probably get thrown out of the truck and die.
Yes! There should be a ban.
In 1978, I had to ride in the back of a pickup truck and that kept me alive from dying of exposure or being eaten out in the Arizonan wilderness. I don't have a problem with it albeit safety measures should be mandated with exceptions for emergencies like I was in.

It's not legal to do this on public roads where I live. I guess people can do what they want on large private properties like farms and such.
I can't say that I have never ridden in the back of a pickup truck on private property. Is it fun? Absolutely. Is it dangerous and stupid? Absolutely, especially when you're off road and bouncing all over the place.
Very true, you don't even have to register your vehicle if you don't plan to use it on public roads, or have insurance on it. If it is all for private property only, none of that applies.
@Aerissa_Jade Yeah I think it's the same here. I live in a city, but I know out in the rural areas, people do this lol. Not on public streets, but on their own properties. It's stupid, dangerous, and illegal to do it out on a public street here. I've seen people put their dogs on the back of a pickup too and then go on the highway here. It's really not worth it.
The government should stay out of our business. If people are dumb enough to ride in the back of a pickup truck then that's the chance they take. I don't need to go to government to tell me what to do and whether it's safe or not.. If you don't have enough common sense then you probably deserve to be injured
that would do a lot of damage to redneck america. nope.
It may shock you, but I used to be in a car... without seatbelts! I know, that sounds like a crime now.
Yes.. As a retired law enforcement officer, I have seen so many people killed and run over by other vehicles while being in the back of jeeps and pick up trucks. Not a smart thing to do. 👮♂️✌️
I thought they already did? But I think its fine my dad never killed us when we were in the back
I think in some states it already is banned. Too many people were falling out or killed in rollover accidents when ejected from the bed.
They do in some places. Have to have secured seats with seatbelts. I don’t see why you wouldn’t want all of that. It’s just safer.
I rode in the bed a lot of times when I was a teenager. It's not legal anymore where I live. Every passenger has to have a seat bolted in and a seat belt. If they don't wear the seat belt there is a fine
I'm pretty sure that in most states there are laws against riding in the back of a pickup truck, but rarely enforced.
I didn't think it was legal.
Maybe it varies state to state
I am pretty sure it is banned in my province.
I believe it’s already against the law in many states
I’d like to try it once before they ban it.
No, I drove to Florida from New England in a pickup truck. We rode 3 in the front and 3 in the back.
Meh! I am doing it no matter what. If i die... I die. No need to ruin the fun for me.
It's illegal here unless they drive really slow, This is for the safety of the people on board.
As far as I know, they have! Decades ago!! Before you were even born!
That’s like riding in the backseat with no seatbelt on. Lady Diana died, so better put precautions! I want to laws banning it, though.
Meddlesome mommy government does not care about what it should or shouldn't do. It does whatever it can to control the people.
As an adult you should be allowed to do as you please but as I always say, "play stupid games, win stupid prizes"
No, because I used to do that for fun, I like it
I'm pretty sure it's already illegal.
Simples...
As long as the driver isn’t absolutely horrible its fine
I did it when was a kid and I did get injured! I don't recommend it isn't safe, in some states it is illegal
Obviously - as no seatbelts.
I thought it was illegal in most places?
Most states have laws against that now.
No, period
Nope.
Nope
Of course
It's already illegal
