What should the penalty for people who smuggle Fentanyl over the border to kill Americans?

Two Arizona sisters were indicted this week after deputies allegedly found over 850,000 counterfeit pills laced with fentanyl inside a vehicle they were traveling in toward Phoenix last month. Authorities did not state what the discovered pills were supposed to emulate.

Kimberli Guadalupe Torres-Marin, 26, and Alexa Torres-Marin, 19, were each indicted by a Maricopa County grand jury with one count of sale or transportation of narcotic drugs, a class two felony, according to an announcement from the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office on Monday.

The two women, reportedly sisters, according to AZ Family, were arrested on Aug. 24 after Maricopa County Sheriff’s deputies allegedly found the stash in duffel bags. The bags were in the vehicle the women were traveling in toward Phoenix.

Much more Fentanyl is being passed around by American citizens than anything, so I kind of reject this mischaracterization of the migrants who come into the country as dangerous. Most of them are just people, looking for a better existence, and never fault anyone for that. And I actually just researched this a little more…. these women with Fentanyl are Arizonans, not immigrants. So I’m not really sure what the border has to do with this particular case. The NY Post article I read told of the two women, and then, unrelated, they mentioned the amount of seizures at the border, and I hope you’re sitting down for this, but drugs come in from other countries fairly frequently. I used to hustle weed like 20 years ago when it was still illegal, and we had the weight coming in from Quebec. I also didn’t know this particular plug personally, but I remember supply being interrupted at one point after a bust, and they discovered a Temple Of Doom-esque mine cart rail system that went under the border and opened up in Northern Vermont. No one seemed to have the same energy for that border though. A big part of the Republican platform is fear-mongering through xenophobia and blaming problems on immigrants, so take any and all news you hear about that sort of thing with a full shaker of salt. And bottom line: real life is real life, bad and even terrible things are always, always, ALWAYS going to happen, and there’s just not a whole hell of a lot that can realistically be done about it, so it’s up to all of us to just keep our heads on a swivel when we step out the door each day, rather than having entitled expectations that our safety is going to be protected.

I saw how a country musician just died of Fentynl OD by accident. It's incredibly dangerous substance as just a little bit on something you think is safe, can kill. See how easy would be to commit acts of "terror" and kill a bunch of folks? Dangerous!

I don't know enough about this to say what to do about it. Why are they bringing it here, how is it made, what are the pathways. Certainly, the border needs secured and for more reasons than one. Good luck with that... no one has ever secured the border.

Anyone who sells any drug that kills someone should be charged with murder, or at least manslaughter.

My understanding is that most illegal fentanyl in the US comes across the US-Mexico border, but does not originate there. As near as I can tell, most comes from China and enters the US through Mexico because it's far easier to get smuggle drugs across a very long and remote land border than by other methods.

The two girls who were arrested for this might not have come from Mexico, but the drugs almost certainly did. And most likely they have direct connections to the smugglers.

Other countries also have a big problem with fentanyl coming from China. China doesn't do a damn thing about it, probably because it brings lots of money into the country.

No one has ever been able to stop drug use so they have stopped trying. You can get it anyplace, even in prison. Some people use them to cope with stress. I know someone who started vaping to relieve stress from a business he ran. Over time he went back to smoking cigarettes, started using marijuana, and started drinking. I have no idea why kids use this stuff. I assume most do it because it is made to look cool or to fit in. For others it is because you can't cure stupid. 🤷‍♀️
