Last week republican Lindsey Graham introduced a 15-week federal abortion ban, to the consternation of many of his senate colleagues. Republicans at every level of government are splintering over how far their abortion bans should go, and judging by the campaign trail, Graham’s proposal is yet another wedge. We took a look at how republican candidates are responding in the 10 closest senate races, according to our midterm forecast.

According to a Kaiser Family Foundation poll conducted from July 7 to July 17, 60% of women voters between the ages of 18 to 49 said they are now “more motivated” to vote in the upcoming elections because of the Supreme Court’s ruling, up 19 percentage points from May, when registered voters were presented with a scenario based on the leaked draft of the opinion. (Many men also support abortion rights, and there’s evidence that the ruling may have galvanized some of them too.) Support for legal abortion grew by 5 percentage points between March and August, according to polling by The Wall Street Journal, which is a remarkable shift for an issue where public opinion is typically static. And even though some polls have suggested that Americans might support a ban on abortions after the first trimester of pregnancy, which is essentially what a 15 week ban would do, polls specifically asking about bans on abortion after 15 weeks show that respondents are divided.

So even if a 15 week abortion ban seems a lot more restrained than some of the bans that are currently in effect around the country, supporting one still might not be good politics for republican senate candidates right now. There’s not a lot of evidence that republican voters will be galvanized by the proposal and it could end up rallying democratic voters.

Graham's bill is nothing more than transparent pandering; it'd never pass, and if it somehow DID, it'd get struck down immediately as a violation of the tenth Amendment. Even if Graham is too stupid to realize this, his colleagues aren't.

Unfortunately, they're only a minor part of the problem. If you're disgusted by what's going on in the US right now- regarding abortion, that is; I think there's SOMETHING going on here to disgust every last human on Earth- then you're definitively NOT "pro-choice". Being in favor of CHOICE would mean allowing individuals MORE control over the laws that govern them, which would mean supporting Roe being overturned and returning abortion law decisions to the states.

You, on the other hand, simply favor abortion. That's fine, so far as it goes, but what do you think it says about your faith in your beliefs when you can't even describe them honestly? Everything that lives is in favor of life, by dint of simple self-interest, if nothing else; everyone that thinks is in favor of choice, if only because free will is meaningless without it. Abortion, as a political issue, is so hopelessly mired in dishonest rhetoric that there's absolutely no hope of any real resolution.

Lindsay Graham and Mitch McConnell need to be replaced. They are too old and weak. We need a new leader. Trump was an excellent leader, but there are too many conflicts surrounding him so he is not an option. I am a republican, conservative, and prefer abortion legal up to the 1st trimester which is about 15 weeks. So I support the bill itself. But I was strongly against the Supreme Court's decision for political reasons. Look how much damage it caused for Republicans. One decision destroyed their huge opportunity to take back at least some control of one or more chambers. Very sad. US will get destroyed if democrats stay in power. The only person who saved the country from collapse is Manchin. He is a hero. Anyway, majority of Americans support abortion at 15 weeks of they had to choose. But since some governor's made stronger restrictions, many people are too scared to vote for republican governors. I'm praying they will be smart and follow what the majority wants.

In many states you can have an abortion up to the point of fetal viability, which is the medical and legal definition of when the baby can possibly survive outside the womb (at about 6 months). That is something that should never happen, the abortion should have happened way before that. This means you are chopping up an actual baby, not a little blob of cells or a little fetus that looks like a fucking seahorse. They grab them by the neck and sever the spinal cord with a set of forceps and drag them out, sometimes they chop them to pieces while they are still alive to get them out.

This baby's in the video was born at 27 weeks, just 3 weeks past the limit in many states. A 24 week old "fetus" looks just like this baby, only slightly smaller.

I'm pro-choice (up to a point). I'm okay with abortion up to the point of viability (which is around 24 weeks). I'm against abortion on demand during all stages of pregnancy. I'm only okay with late term abortions if they're medically necessary.

I think Graham's bill is a reasonable attempt at compromise between the two extremes of no abortion and abortion on demand. It sets reasonable limits and also allows for exceptions outside those limits.

What is "abortion on demand"? I've never heard of women demanding abortions past after the 2nd trimester because "they just wanted to". I haven't seen Graham's bill, but if the small print doesn't take away what the large print gives, it could be the start of a good Federal alternative. Why he'd get support from the states with more restrictive laws in effect, or in the pipe, is a mystery, however.

The BIG problem with Graham is that basically he's a convenient liar. Back in 2016 as Senate Judiciary Committee chairman, Graham said, “I want you to use my words against me. If there’s a Republican president in 2016 and a vacancy occurs in the last year of the first term, you can say Lindsey Graham said let’s let the next president, whoever it might be, make that nomination.” But in August after the appointment of Brett Kavanaugh, he told NBC News that ”the rules have changed as far as I’m concerned.”

That wasn't the first, or the second, or fifth time Graham has tried to walk back his own words.
I wouldn't put it past to him to try something just as sneaky with an abortion bill. The man cannot be trusted, at any level, and I bet SOME of his colleagues are wondering wtf he's doing.
