Pro-choice.

First thing…. WAYYYYYYYY too many humans alive. We’ll never get it down to a manageable number without something either tragic or inhumane, but any move in the direction of decreased birth rates is excellent for the planet, which I exponentially value above our species. I don’t view abortion as a route to population control or anything, I’m just saying that the idea of reduced human lives, in a vacuum, is welcomed by me, so there’s no objection to abortion for me on that level. There’s no urgency of reproduction needed. Sometimes I hear these dramatic takes about how “that baby could’ve gone on to be someone GREAT!”…. fair enough, but do you think that’s the likely outcome? Or will they just be some random asshole that was in the car in front of you looking at their phone and not paying attention when the light changed, and it got you stuck at a red light? Odds are they’ll be of the latter variety.

That said, people are gonna fuck, and you’ll never stop them. Threats of future repercussions just don’t dissuade people like we want to think they do, so there’s no real societal benefit to forced birth as a warning to others. Everyone knows crime is illegal. Everyone knows you go to prison if you’re caught. People still commit crime, all day, everyday. Same with sex and pregnancy. We know the risks. We see others deal with difficult life consequences from reckless decisions. People still do it, all day, everyday.

I always say “Play to the wind, don’t piss into it.” The way we wish things worked often is not a realistic possibility, so you just have to manage the reality. And the children born suffer the most in all of this, so punishing the parent isn’t really assisting the true victims. So if you don’t want to have a baby, by all means, please do not have one. And I don’t think the adoption market is really starving for more kids. I think we also discount how emotionally weird that is for both parents and child throughout the rest of their lives.

There also seems to be a ton of misinformation out there about abortions, particularly these ideas that fully developed fetuses are getting yanked out and butchered at 8 months and 29 days. I think it’s like 93+% of abortions happen in the first 15 weeks, like 6% more are on some other “first half” time period, and < 1 % are done late term, and those are medical emergencies threatening the life of the mother. So don’t ever believe women have had their gender reveal party and set up the baby room, and then just decided “fuck it, I don’t want to have to choose between Netflix and Disney+, I want BOTH!” in the zero hour and just slaughter an infant. Like who the fuck told you that happens?😂😂😂

Bottom line: I don’t have to carry the kid, I don’t get stuck with most of the caretaking duties, I don’t get my career derailed, I don’t get the stretch marks and the postpartum depression…. so fuck me if I try to tell any lady she has to do any of that. My opinion on that and three dollars will buy you a small coffee and a donut.

I feel like people treat having a baby like getting a puppy. But it’s not that. I’m not even a parent and that’s obvious to me. It’s an incredibly serious life decision, for you and the child alike, and decisions should be MADE, not forced upon us. Asking anyone to only have procreative sex or even safe sex is what I was talking about earlier, it’s pissing into the wind. Excellent plan, but you’ll never get all 7 billion humans on board, so at the end of the day, that can’t be the only plan.

I can respect if someone is religiously opposed to it, but when it comes to legislating it, that’s letting religion inform policy, and we simply can’t have that in a heterogeneous multi-faith society.

You literally have no idea what you are talking about. Birthrates in most of the western or developed world is WAY below replacement level. The growth comes from the countries where they still have a bajillion kids, Nigeria being the worst example.

Even then it will peak at 10 or 11 billion and then decline.

Personally pro life, politically pro choice with limitation. While I don't agree with non medically necessary with abortions, it's not my place to judge or to tell a woman what she can do with her body, that being said, if the fetus is developed enough it can survive outside the womb, then abortions should be illegal unless the mothers life is in danger. Everyone is too hyper focused on abortion, when we should be hyper focused on birth control, without pregnancy their is no need for an abortion, everyone's happy.

Pro choice with abortion up to 12 week of pregnancy.
In my country there is a complete abortion ban, we have one of the longest maternity leave in the world, money after birth and monthly 200USD for a child until 18th birthday. Despite all the efforts, fertility rate falls.
It was different 30 years back as abortion was legal.

Pro-life for myself but pro-choice for everyone else. Although I don’t necessarily agree with late term abortions, unless it’s solely to save the mother’s life or if the baby is suffering from something that would cost its life later on after being born.

I struggle with this question a lot every time someone posts it. It keeps changing the more involved I become with my boyfriend. I have moved more over to being a pro-choicer because I could easily become pregnant and know that that's not something we can afford right now. I would have to get an abortion. But there's a small part of me that still detests the thought of making that choice.

If you're dumb enough to not wrap it up, you should live with the consequences. However, I believe there also need to be exceptions (i. e. rape, or where the mom's life is put on high risk due to the pregnancy)
