5.9K opinions shared on Society & Politics topic. I'm pro-choice.
I don't believe that life begin at conception.
I can't fathom opposition to early-term abortion in cases of accidental pregnancy. It's not like women take abortion lightly. It's a gut wrenching decision. But if is is done early with the morning after pill, chemical abortion within 10 weeks of their last period, or even medical abortion up to the end of the first trimester (16 weeks), the fetus has no nervous system or conscious. It's not cruel and it is not the same as murder.
Sometimes abortion is the only logical choice.
Accidents can happen.
Contraception can fail. It's rare, but it can happen.
Coercion, incest or rape can occur.
Some young girls are naive when they think they are in love. They may be under the impression that they won't get pregnant the first time they have sex.
Or they may stupidly use the "pull out" method when engaging in unprotected sex.
I knew two different girls in high school who got pregnant the first time they had sex with their first boyfriends. They got early-term abortions, learned their lessons, and got on birth control so that it wouldn't happen again.
Having a baby at the age of 15 or 16 would have wrecked their lives and seriously impacted the lives of their parents, the boy and his family.
But they went on to have normal lives, eventually got married and had healthy babies. And no, the abortions didn't cause them mental issues.
I you don't have the means to care for a baby, you shouldn't have one. It's not fair to the child.
If a girl has to get an abortion, it should serve as a lesson never to put themselves in that position again.
I think it is stupid for women to not be on birth control if they are sexually active.
Every one of my girlfriends were on the pill. I estimate that I've came inside women well over 5,000 times with never a pregnancy scare.
I have a serious problem with women who engage in serial abortion as a method of birth control. That shows an unacceptable level of callousness and stupidity.
I am not in favor of late term abortion except in cases of medical necessity.
The problem I have with pro-lifers is their hypocrisy in having such compassion for an undeveloped, few week old fetus but no compassion for the woman and zero compassion for a child once it is born. They wash their hands of the whole thing by blaming the woman for having sex and for being unable to provide a good home for the child.410 Reply- 1 y

I'm posting this here since MadhuriDixit actually blocked me, after asking why she deleted my comment. So @MadhuriDixit you can take all the time in the world. I merely asked you to explain your point of view and to justify how life of a baby without parents exceeds the life of its mother when there are complications and there has to be chosen between the life of the mother or the baby. And whether you have thought about what happens to babies and children that are unwanted and have been put on this earth. Enlighten us maybe we could learn something. But deleting our comments says more about you rather than us. And you actually did block me lol, like I said its easier to live in denial rather than actually provide an answer.

1 yI'm pro-choice. I think you should pay for it though instead of demanding taxpayers pay for it. I think you should consider all the different forms of birth control if you don't want kids. I will still classify you as a 'Fucking Retard' if you need one and it isn't from rape, incest, or some other nasty rapey thing. I don't approve of these girls just randomly having sex and then expecting someone else to get rid of the problem they helped create.
I'm a guy... and I'll tell you pulling out has worked for me. When I was a kid, my Mom told me this story of a chick getting pregnant just from the guy pulling out and cumming on her pussy, so I wasn't shooting my load anywhere near that baby hole. It's not hard to avoid a kid. That and I have an eye for recognizing chicks that are trying to trap me... that condom is getting flushed down the toilet... fuck your feelings and bullshit, I will get a paternity test... I don't believe you about your birth control... you'll have to show me you swallowed it before I go piss.

So I may be pro-choice, but I also think women that need that choice are stupid fucking retards that fuck hard-up for pussy dudes that can't control their urge to nut inside of her.
Without abortion though... those stupid fucking retards are going to make children and those children will grow up to be stupid fucking retards that fuck retarded dudes just like her Mom did. Ya feel me? On top of that, unwanted children are probably going to get treated like unwanted children, just like I was. I wouldn't wish that shit on anybody.

1 yQuite honestly my mum already had five kids. Plus two, or three miscarriages before I was born. She was tired, worn out, and exhausted. She told me she had thoughts of not wanting another kid. She thought about giving me up, as my parent faced difficult circumstances. Emotionally , and mentally she was drained. Mum went to the pastor one day, and explained her feeling of being exhausted, and worried about having another kid with things getting worse for the family. She said is wrong of me to feel like I want I give up the child. He said it was a completely normal feeling to be exhausted, and want to give up. You see my dad’s job two years prior fired him when they found out he was expecting my brother, and said you need to find something better to provide for your family. Then in adjusting at new job, and being there a little over a year. He was not completely settled in to the job. Then expecting me, it got my mum a little worried. You see my parent helped manage the apartments where they lived. As it gave them a discount on rent if I remember correctly. They loved how my parents ran things yet they were kicking my parents out kids in all. The apartment owners told my parents with them expecting it was not good to have that many kids in a one, or two bedroom apartment. Thankfully my mum trusted in God to provide for my parents with five children. My mom was concerned of what would happen next the though of being on the street with five children was daunting, plus expecting a new child. Not long God did provide , and they found a home for rent down by the railroad tracks. Then they moved, all of my siblings in, and I was still in mums womb. I am certainly thankful that my mother chose to keep me. It was not easy for her as she truly grappled with the though of being done. Grateful to my mom for overcoming all worries, and fear that made her question giving me life. Now years later I am thinking of what if I have a kid under difficult circumstances. I am thankful to the example of my mother’s willingness to share the realities of her life already having five children whilst I was in her womb. It helped me see I never want to give up on the wonderful life that that will someday grow inside of me.

Feels like a requirement to be in some circles! Like a cult requirement for women of a certain age to have all made the mistake and fix it.
Maybes it's just a older women kink they all share after trauma but my sister is all brain washed for this one group at church.
Personally it's women making stupid mistakes knowing they will probably get pregnant and saying yes to it cause why not and then later having an easy ish out!
It's unneeded for today! Protection and medications are nearly free and easy! Also saying no to the bad choices is easy most stories are one night stand or short very short relationships.
Often hear baby mommy's with 3 or 4 kids knowing the dude made 2 other women baby moms! Like how are you that dumb?

I'm genuinely mostly unsure and I don't think I would ever know truly until I was in a position where me and my partner were having to consider that. I also do believe in the soul even though I'm not Christian or even religious, but the soul is also something unproven and when you make decisions about human rights based on spiritual or religious grounds and that's how you end up with Shira law. (Shudders)
If someone forced me to pick a stance, I would probably say I'm pro-choice on early term abortions but if the baby has reached the point, there's brain activity the part of me that believes in a soul feels like it's unethical at that point. I also see it as a (possible) sign of a lack of sexual responsibility because woman can know after the first 2 weeks if they're pregnant and have a good while to think before the fetus develops a brain. Then again keeping or aborting a baby is a pretty big fucking decision too so it's not surprising it would take a while to figure out.
Also, I 100% believe in medical exceptions if the baby is a threat to the womans life forcing her to give birth against her will is basically murder if she dies in my opinion because you forced her to do something against her will that ended her life. I also understand the perspective of woman who have been raped as well and can't imagine what it would be like to be in that position just thinking about it makes my skin crawl but again I still feel uneasy about late term abortions and it's not the babies fault but again this is based on my belief in the should and church and state should always be separate.
10 Reply1.2K opinions shared on Society & Politics topic. IF it's permitted to one it should be permitted to both (at least legally). No one should force a birth on anyone just as no one should force someone to abort a child they want.
However, there should be no law that allows a person to force parenthood on another. In no way should a pregnancy automatically tie an unwilling person into the consequences of that pregnancy. A woman should not have automatic access to the wealth of a man because she refused to have a termination after having sex with him when he's expressed he doesn't want to become a parent (sure you can say vasectomy, condoms, abstinence and all those other FORCED procedures or methods of contraception that are missing the point that AFTER consensual sex there is no consent to PARENTHOOD implied for men).
Why? Well it is absolutely a woman's prerogative to do whatever she chooses with a pregnancy. BUT when you can become pregnant from someone who WANTS a child with you and you take that opportunity away there should be zero he can do to stop that. JUST as he should have the right to say I want ZERO to do with that pregnancy forthwith and not be held liable for raising a child SHE wanted even though it's his. It's only fair if both can have a post fertilisation equality applied to consequences.
20 Reply449 opinions shared on Society & Politics topic. I lean more towards that it’s murder considering their are other alternatives a girl can choose over having an abortion , it’s not the baby’s fault that it was made , so to kill a baby’s life is murder. If a girl wants to live her life knowing she murdered her baby , that’s something she will live with the rest of her life. Put the baby up for adoption instead if she doesn’t want to raise it. I know girls’ that were raped and got pregnant that chose to keep the baby and it was the best decision they made.

@PiscesPoet92 That's your personal belief with no evidence to support it. At least half of all human pregnancies end in miscarriage, so God is responsible for tens of millions of abortions every year, not to mention the millions of children who die of starvation and disease. God doesn't care about embryos or living children. If you don't approve of abortion, don't have one.

I don't think people should get abortions in the majority of circumstances (Rape and health being the exceptions where you can make a moral argument but in the case of heath the baby should be tried to be saved rather than murdered).
That said the government should have no right to dictate your body. This moral judgement is entirely up to the individual to make. I do think restricting them is fine though, you should be able to make the moral choice before it has a heart or brain cell.

There's question of morality around times for abortion. 6 to 8 weeks is common to even figure out a pregnancy in the first place. Like 80% have zero objection to this time period.
Majority of people are worried about late term abortion. So 1% of 1% of all total abortions. These abortions happen if the fetus is lower then 50% likely hood of survival. I'm trying to find the vocabulary word for it but I am struggling to find it.
Medically improbable to survive. That has been the rule of Medical practices with understanding death is inevitable. Mothers should be able to grant mercy to their own child who is in endless agony.
Under all foreseeable conditions of abortion. It's acceptable under doctor supervision.

No, I sincerely don't give a damn if she murders the kid. I truly give more thought to which socks I'm wearing that day. I've had 3 before I got my partial hysterectomy. I've not one regret.

- 1 y
Life is sacred. How do you not feel any sympathy for the innocent life?
You're thinking like Richard Ramirez... and other serial killers. - 1 y
Life isn't sacred. It's been going for billions of years. Humans in history number around 100,000,000 I'm around 250,000 years. That's a banality if anything.
Because I don't feel much of anything. But unlike them, I control myself and I try to be good and protect those I feel love for. I'm a monster, sure, but I'm not that monstrous. - 1 y
You don't feel love. You're selfish and devoid of sympathy and empathy for others especially the most vulnerable of humans.
You think like a serial killer if you think a 9 month old should be aborted. - 1 y
I do feel love, and I do have empathy. I'll give you a little lesson to help you understand.
There's two forms of empathy. Emotional and cognitive. For example
Say your mom died and your friend Tina's mom died. You both understand the pain and have both felt it. That's Emotional empathy.
Now for cognitive empathy, say your mom died and told me. To me, that registers Emotionally as much as if you told me you got a flat tire. I cognitively understand and you are in pain, it just doesn't stir emotion in me.
Now it is true I am devoid of sympathy and I am very selfish. But I do love, and i do experience emotional empathy for certain things. This is severe trauma and mental illness, I sure as hell didn't choose to be like this Absolutely well said & well said indeed.

1 yI'm pro-life.. It's not just the woman's choice because it's not just her baby.. It doesn't matter if she is the vessel helping to cultivate the life.. She should never have the power over the decision of a life. Unwanted pregnancies are mostly a result of reckless choices. Pregnancy is not hard to avoid..

It’s so easy to dismiss one of the most scary and painful human experiences when you will never be expected to subject your own body to it.
But then, women are just vessels, right? - 1 y
- 1 y
@SofaKingsMart My point is not to dismiss pregnancy or it's hardships, but to say that just because the woman carries the baby, doesn't give her the ultimate power over
what happens to it. And that pregnancy is not hard to avoid, and is mostly a result of recklessness.. - 1 y
@SofaKingsMart Your nature and your own womanhood drops right on you and no one else.. That's your responsibility as us men were designed as well to do our nature thing. You can't handle being a woman then your very weak. That sounds more like a personal problem with yourself... no one else.
- 1 y
@Joshydavid25
I disagree.
If my body does all the work, I get all the say.
I do agree that pregnancy should be actively prevented if you don’t want children. But I also understand that it’s not 100% reliable. Parenting isn’t something that should be entered into lightly. It’s quite the commitment. I never understood the idea that people who have already proven to be irresponsible, by way of unintended pregnancy, should be forced to be responsible for the very life and wellbeing of another.
Now that’s recklessness. - 1 y
- 1 y
@SofaKingsMart It's a privilege to be able to bring life into the world, and a lot of women abuse it by doing anything and everything but being responsible. But also, like I mentioned, just because you're the vessel doesn't mean you get all the say.. I could see if the father's not in the Picture and don't care, then yeah you get a say, but if he's willing to work hard to support you and the baby, then it's both your decision.
A woman has only a certain time of the month to get pregnant. So, if unwanted pregnancy is happening, then that means that the woman was having a lot of sex, or mainly had sex when she was the most horny.. There's always adoption..
1 yThe whole abortion thing IT'S MURDER! This really upsets me so many woman who can't have babies wanting to be mother's some even have to pay someone else to carry their child. Instead of killing the child why not finding a family who does want children.

2.3K opinions shared on Society & Politics topic. I think if a girl or woman was raped then they should be able to go get the pill or procedure, if the pregnancy is a risk to the mother's life, if the mother is too young, like normal reasons. People say it shouldn't be used like a convenient form of birth control and I agree. On the other hand, what is worse? Getting an abortion or raising an unwanted child? Most people don't get over the childhood trauma of their mother treating them like they are unwanted.
There are other aspects that people don't take into consideration. My friend's wife had got an abortion a long time ago. They had a few kids after that. He said he still stares at the ceiling in the dark before he goes to sleep, thinking about who that kid would have been. His wife feels the same way. Some people can't live with it and some can, it's not a decision to be taken lightly.

Abortions are easily obtained in much of the world, so pregnant women must be prohibited from travel. Abortion pills are readily available, so it means regularly testing all women for pregnancy and then investigating any miscarriage. It quickly becomes a witch hunt. This is really what it's about -- keeping women under the authority of men.

1 yThe short and over simplified answer is, past the point of the neo cortex coming I to existence it is murder. The circumstances that lead to the existence of the child become irrelevant at that point. And that point is roughly 24-28 weeks. Before that the part that matters (the person) does not exist and has no inherent moral value
014 Reply- 1 y
@SomothErgai And you know all this how, specifically? Or did you just make it up to try to sound clever?
- 1 y
@msc545 oh boy. i don't know if i want to spend the time to fully write this out right now. I promise there is far, far more to this line of reasoning and if you want the full thing i'll go into more detail at another time. but as i said. the short version is this. the reason it's murder if i kill you is that you are considered a person. you are endowed implicitly with moral worth. all of society agrees on this. but it isn't simply because you have human cells and dna. i could cut off your arm and not be guilty of murder. unless you bleed out of course. as long as you don't die it isn't murder. why? because YOU didn't die. your arm did, assuming it doesn't get reattached. but "you" did not. if i cut off your other arm, you legs, hell, if i hooked your brain up to a machine that kept it alive and removed it from your body, "you" would still be alive. your body can die, but as long as your brain is in tact and functioning "you" don't go anywhere. and so I still have not killed you. and if i haven't killed you, i haven't murdered you. only when the brain is destroyed is anyone ever truly dead. but why? because within the brain resides the person. everything that makes you "you" rests in that organ
your brain has many different regions though. and not all of them actually contain the you part. that part is almost entirely contained within the neocortex. without that there is no "you" there. and the neocortex develops by roughly 24-28 weeks. so. if we follow that logic all the way, it follows that, any human being that possesses a functioning neocortex is a person. a person is not dead until their neocortex stops functioning. intentionally, and unjustifiably, causing a persons neocortex to stop functioning is called murder. babies develop a neocortex at about 24 weeks of gestation. therefore 24 week old babies are legally persons. therefore intentionally and unjustifiably killing a 24 week old baby is murder. - 1 y
@msc545 so then the question becomes, under what circumstances is it justifiable to intentionally kill a person? self defense is the easiest example but there are others. so then the question is, does the concept of self defense apply to 24 week old babies. well yes. sometimes. sometimes the baby does in fact pose a serious threat to the life and health of the mother. the self defense argument holds here. but far more often than not this is not the case and so self defense would not hold and there is no justifiable reason to kill the baby.
- 1 y
You used the phrase the "you part" repeatedly. Therefore:
Please explain what the "you part" is, how it came into being and why , and how you know it exists.
You also described the location of the "you part" in the brain and stated it is in the Neocortex. Please explain how you know that is, in fact, true, and how the "you part" is different from the rest of the brain such that you are able to presumably delineate and describe it - in detail apparently. - 1 y
@msc545 well I did define it but sure. ill do it again. A person is any entity with a functioning human mind.
Notice i did not specify brain. i like to leave room for the future and one day we might put our minds inside computers. brains are just currently the only objects capable of producing or containing a mind. but that might not always be the case.
The characteristics attributed to most human minds is the capacity to feel a wide range of emotions, fear, sadness, happiness etc and sensations, pain, touch, smell, sound etc. though there are many exceptions to all of these and we would still call people with a diminished access to sensory input or thought "persons". as long as the human is capable of any degree of perception or experience I would say that is the fundamental immutable attribute that must be present to constitute a person. the degree of perception is irrelevant. someone born without the ability to sense the outside world, or if they have severe cognitive impairment, is still a person as long as there is any degree of internal experience. likewise anyone suffering an injury that leaves them with severely diminished sensory input is still a person as long as it can be said that they are still having "experiences". - 1 y
@msc545 oh i didn't see these other questions before i started writing. whoopsie daisy.
"Please explain what the "you part" is, how it came into being and why , and how you know it exists."
I thought i had made that clear but sure. The "you" part is the part you that has a sense of self. the conscious experience you are having at this very moment is the "you" part. the part of you that makes you "you".
It came into being at the moment of your first synapse firing in the neocortex. as i said the neocortex is the region of the brain that contains conscious thought. brain scans, neuroscience, all manor of brain imaging techniques bare this out to be true. and cases like Phineas Guage exemplify how catastrophic damage to the neocortex can fundamentally and severely alter who you are and what you're like.
"You also described the location of the "you part" in the brain and stated it is in the Neocortex. Please explain how you know that is, in fact, true, and how the "you part" is different from the rest of the brain such that you are able to presumably delineate and describe it - in detail apparently"
I know this is the case because I have done a fair amount of studying neuroscience. scientists and medical professionals have investigated this topic extensively and I study what they have to teach. I have been to museums where they have real disections of brains on display. I've read about lots of cases involving changes to the brain, such as the phineas guage case i mentioned and many others. I also have read extensively about a wide range of neurological conditions. face blindness for example. split brain syndrom. both of which are absolutely fascinating. I listen to world renowned neuroscientists like sam harris talk about the research they have done and what they have learned about how the brain works. and I have read medical journlas detailing brain development, anatomy and things of that sort. - 1 y
@msc545 If you want a philosophical answer about how I "know" any of this is true. I don't. "knowing" is a very complicated concept and it's not really a sensible thing to say that anyone "knows" anything with certainty. there is always the chance you could be wrong. But I trust the many many people who have dedicated their lives to advancing our knowledge in these fields to know what they are talking about.
"Finally, what exactly does the "you part" do and how do you know that? "
I feel like this is pretty clearly laid out above but sure. plain and simply, the "you" part is what's doing the experiencing right now as you sit there and read this text. the part of you that "experiences" is the "you" part. Annnd I know that because that's what the word means - 1 y
I am very tempted to ask you to define the word "experience" but I will let it rest as I am tired. and I think that discretion is the better part of valor. You may want to contemplate the fact (supported by research) that the human brain remains active for a fairly long time after death. Googling this will result in lots of interesting research articles.
Thank you for your excellent responses, and thank you for the discussion.
1.9K opinions shared on Society & Politics topic. It should not be used as a Primary method of birth control, it should be kept for those cases where the woman's life is in jeopardy, and/or the pregnancy is the result of rape.
As there are more than 30+ methods of birth control Women can use - I do not include Abortion as I see that as an absolute last resort when something has gone seriously wrong as no method of birth control is 100% with the exception being abstinent.

@msc545 - Not if the female is a minor, and the pregnancy is a result of sexual exploitation. there is no way that I would insist on a child carrying a pregnancy to term when it would threaten her life no and in the future.
The legality of abortion in the United States and the various restrictions imposed on the procedure vary significantly, depending on the laws of each state or other jurisdiction, although there is no uniform federal law. Some states prohibit abortion at all stages of pregnancy, with few exceptions; others permit it up to a certain point in a woman's pregnancy, while some allow abortion throughout a woman's pregnancy. In states where abortion is legal, several classes of restrictions on the procedure may exist, such as parental consent or notification laws, requirements that patients be shown an ultrasound before obtaining an abortion, mandatory waiting periods, and counselling requirements.
Only PA the State has a total ban on Abortions.

@msc545 And raising a child that is the issue of Rape would not create psychological problems for the mother? Especially if the the minor is in her early teens? this article give detail of how having to carry a child to rem would affect these minors. https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC6927362/

1 yI don't see a problem with abortion, as long as there's a legit reason for it and it's done EARLY!!!
And, by legit reason, I DON'T mean that you just can't keep your legs closed and refuse to use some form of birth control!!
Example: Girl loves to fuck and gets pregnant but doesn't want kids so, just get an abortion, go fuck someone else, get pregnant, get another abortion., etc..
In other words, it's NOT there as an escape clause!!00 Reply
1 yMy body, my choice. I'm glad I live in a country were there are still clinics and hospitals that help women out. Especially when its a life and death threatening situation.

Anonymous(45 Plus)1 yI've heard a few near death experiences where nothing happened to the lady. I've also heard one where they met God and God told them it's a sin because people choose parents before their born.
Aside from that I think it's OK if the baby will be born handicapped, deaf, blind, prematurely, with a learning problem, the pregnancy will endanger the mom or baby's life. Also anything else of the kind.00 Reply
Anonymous(25-29)1 yif women abort then men can opt out of child support otherwise total ban
causing a miscarriage is deemed a crime, abortion should be one too
30 Reply2.6K opinions shared on Society & Politics topic. I accept the general compromise of first trimester. I have great difficulty accepting late term abortions when the fetus would be viable as a premature birth.
03 Reply- 1 y
That never happens. Ever
- 1 y
@DrPepper12 . In my jurisprudence abortion on demand is up to 24 weeks and that is the threshold of viability for a premature birth. Late abortion is still allowed after that point but requires two doctors to agree.
One public hospital in my state does provide abortions for non fetal or maternal medical issues after 24 weeks. About 12 abortions are done at 20 weeks and at least one over 24 weeks per month for psychological reasons. Full term births vary by month but could be 7,000 for the state in total..
So late abortions for non medical reasons is indeed rare but does most certainly occur.
