If someone needs help , Why would they live when you call the police to help them?

Last night a young lady came into my door knocking in desperate need and yelling help me and barefoot. I call the police to get her help the dispatcher told me to not open the door under any circumstances. I made the sing threw the door that the police was on his way to help her out of nowhere she lives. If someone is trying to help a person that seems to be in danger why would they live when you get the police involved?

Perhaps she thought the police were more of a danger than whatever she was facing because perhaps she was up to no good.
