I think the answer depends entirely on your definition of "tough and masculine." To me, it is more difficult to always be there for the ones who depend on you, to be their rock, to be their anchor, to do the right thing so that you will be going home every night instead of having left them to fend for themselves.

But you may define "tough and masculine" differently. Some people think masculine means owning a pick up truck.

But they were not my type so I put them in the friend zone. It has nothing to do with insecurity. It's a preference and based on what I learned about myself to find out what is best for me. @WilliamPamer446 Absolutely, if they have a genuine desire to do better. As a CO, one of my favorite moments is when an inmate has been released and actually manages to not return to jail. Our jails (my county has 4) have college courses and sometimes offer trade training.
