What’s the biggest stereotype/misconception You have ever seen/heard of?

By biggest, I mean one that the most of all people assume is true. It can be of anything — race, nationality, faith, religion, subculture, sex, gender, whatever. I’ve heard of that:

Women ain’t as good/smart/strong as men.
Islam is an evil religion (astaghfirullāh).
Hippies have long hair and are dirty.
Gender and sex are the same thing.
The majority of Muslims live in the Middle East.

The craziest thing I heard is that I was told I hate western values because I'm Chinese, nobody who has experience with me has ever made a racist comment because they know I'm perfectly normal, rational, law abiding and polite but I've had ignorant strangers make racist comments about me. One guy accused me of not knowing English even though I got 100% on a 24 page essay in school.

So the stereotype is Chinese don’t know English, right? Weird, how I have a Facebook friend from Taiwan who speaks English better than I speak German. Although She’s Taiwanese, She speaks Mandarin well.

I'm not sure I can identify Western Values and Chinese values, but my personal values are hybrid Christian and Jewish and Liberal values. Like I believe in philanthropy and kindness and friendliness towards outsiders, understanding of the less fortunate, and merited kindness and help based on effort and not based on need. I also believe in honesty and punitive coercion for those who hurt others.

But one idea a lot of foreigners in third world countries have is that people in America are rich; and it's the land of opportunity, and if you work hard, you'll 'make it.'

The one about women not being as smart or strong as men is ACCURATE and proven.

Anyways, the false one I have heard a lot is that Asians are smart and good at math. When in college with some of them and when teaching them in schools, that often is not the case.

Actually, I’ve heard from a comrade that women are smarter on average. More women are vegetarian, have healthier diets, and masturbate less (and when they do, they don’t lose as much of their hormones). Can You show me how is it accurate and proven?

Women are not smarter, but they sometimes do have better diets. Not the vegetarian ones though. Often vegetarian people end up in bad health, physically weak, and low energy. I know that they claim to have high energy (after eating meat for 20 to 30 years and only being a vegetarian for 6 months) but in the long run it swings the other way. Even Schwarzenegger tried it and became somewhat frail looking and weaker. He discussed it before on TV years ago.

Jewish people own everything and that they’re all rich. It is true that Jewish people are very wise with their money and they do invest in the right places but they’re not all filthy rich like everyone jokes about 🙄
