How in the world would the words "Mom" and "Dad" that people have been using for ages become obsolete just because someone found it offensive? I refer to my parents as "Mummy" and "Daddy" and will continue calling them so. I don't see anything that could possibly be considered as "offensive" at all.

Sooner or later we won't be able to communicate at all. More and more words are becoming offensive to snowflakes and the government is too weak to stand up for common sense. Even the "Ok" sign is offensive because it creates the letters W and P which stands for "White Power" 😂
According tabloid reports "People who are not "ladies" or "gentleman" may recognise the difference, feel included and that they belong." I think that's great because what if your a cheap slut or a low life criminal rather than a lady or a gent? It's nice to include everyone.
Stupid wokism. One Australian State decided it was discriminatory that on birth certificates that the mother was presumed to be female despite it only being possible for biological females to give birth.
Both gays and lesbians always seem to be clear on what gender they are and what gender they get off on just as much as heteros are.
In the movie Kinky Boots there is a great line "Ladies and Gentlemen... and Those Who Have Yet To Decide". That seems to be pretty inclusive, even of those who think they are a cat or a dog.
I mean I guess it makes sense. Just say parents or distinguished guests? Gets the same point across. And even outside "gender/sexuality" shit, there's still cases where people could maybe get rubbed the wrong way by those phrases. Single parents/single parent kids, for example, may not appreciate the reminder. Or if there's very few of one sex, ladies and gents could come off as a joke, or the speaker could not know whether to say both if they speaking largely to one sex. I'm sure there's other stuff too but I'm tired
I see that this madness takes over the world. It started in Germany some time ago. The media and everywhere else they are changing how to speak to people. For example:
Male: Bewohner Female: Bewohnerin
New woke word: Bewohner*in
They do it so no one feels offended. I'm a women and I think this is just annoying. Everything was ok before the woke madness happened. I always see that "*in* for everything human related ("Schüler*in", instead of "Schüler" -> male and "Schülerin" -> female).
They also want try to avoid saying words that could include any gender so that they use a word that is too neutral, like you're an object and not a human.
This sounds false. Like, some idiot on a council sent a notice that referred to parents with an unprofessional word (homies, breeders, etc) and then some bureaucrat made a rule that only the term âparentsâ can be used and then some asshat reporter turned it into âbig government has banned the words âMom and Dad!â.
Stop reading/listening to angertainment. This type of reporting is trash. Itâs meant to manipulate people into getting mad so theyâll stick around long enough to view ads.
I think these people read too much Lacan (the fraud) and think they can quite literally change the fabric of reality by changing and policing language.
Their "pains" and triggers will continue forever and whether or not we get rid of all the references to our binary view of genders in our languages.
Most of the HR/bureaucrat intersectional ideologues who come up with these inanities have never heard of Lacan. When they try to convince me that Iâm racist because Iâm a white male and I ask if they have read their own philosophers they either tell me they read DiAngelo (lol) or give me a blank stare.

DiAngelo is disgusting. Lacan was a charlatan, but at least he wrote and spoke in confusing terms and tried very hard to impress artists who were obsessed with the human subjective experience (usually confusing dream and reality in their psychotic episodes...) and linguistics and psychology students who were lost in the abstract world of words.
DiAngelo doesn't even try to be subtle in her racism. She just makes a bullshit term like "white fragility" and proceeds to justify descrimination against white people. She's an unapologetic radical and would be ignored and laughed at (at best) if our societies were sane.
@Mia-Wallace I agree completely. DiAngelo is obviously racist against minorities based on several statements in her book. I believe this is why she is so intent on browbeating everyone into believing all whites are inherently racist. If that is the case, it lessens her own guilt.
Oh, I see. When I see corporations pay huge amounts for disproven unconscious bias training I figure it should be straightforward enough to get investors to buy into a value proposition that is actually real. I shouldnât be so optimistic though. There is a big difference between how managers and investors are incentivized.

I move in managerial and entrepreneurial circles. My impression is that 80% are true believers in wokeness or abject sell-outs. In my opinion thats just stupid and you should be able to say anything you want as long as it is not putting anyone or a certain group of people down. But i dont live in england so i would not know if there was a specific reason.
That's fake. However British Airways actually did ban the use of "Ladies and Gentlemen" being used by pilots making their announcements on their planes.

Like I said, the word has lost its meaning In California they call diesel trucks RACIST because they pollute the air. If you think about it, talking to a group of students for example not every single one of those students is going to have a mom and dad. Some have just mom, some have just dad, some have two moms, some two dads, some are looked after by grandma and grandpa, some are in foster care, some are in blended families. So makes more sense to address them collectively and inclusively as "parents and caregivers"
@Smashingdoozy agreed. I use her name when addressing my mother, stepfather, and grandparents. However, if one wants to call Mum/Dad, they shouldnât be forced to use otherwise.
