Ms. Herzog apparently isn't aware of how Fathers Day came about. Sonora Smart Dodd was the driving force behind it to honor her widowed father that picked up the burden of raising his 6 children after their mother passed away. It was slow going, a complement to May's Mother's Day, and many fought to combine the holidays into one parent's day.
Single parents have always been around. Many widows raised children after their husbands were killed. Young men would die in a myriad of ways: war, work accidents, crime. Women, however, had one other obstacle: surviving childbirth. Death rates in childbirth have dropped dramatically since the 1900s, but now women are prone to die in war and workplace accidents. Add into the mix the number of fathers that are now receiving custody of minor children with little, or no, support from the mothers.
That's just B. S. and I'm not one who likes celebrating anything. She even ignores a technical aspect of her silly tweet, don't gay dads qualify as same-sex parents? What's she going to say next? Ban Mother's Day because it's offensive to single dads? Or Same sex (male) dads? Ban Children's Day because it's offensive to the Childless, CFBC, etc?
Father's Day is actually a respectful commemoration of the efforts done by father figures. We have lots of father figures around the globe and I think the people who find it unbelievably offensive need to respect people who choose to commemorate it at the very least.
The person who tweeted is the one being disrespectful. The hashtags she included are irrelevant. How will banning Father's Day stop patriarchy? That's quite a convoluted mindset she has there.
I haven't seen a single mom offended by Father's Day because they'd already be recognized on Mother's Day which is celebrated a month before Father's Day. That's literally ladies going first.
It's not fair to the single dads. Same sex couples obviously can't choose their sexuality but they can also celebrate the day. It may not take two people to raise a child but two females, two males and a heterosexual couple can all raise a child/children. Mother's Day and Father's Day are days to celebrate and thank our parents for helping us grow and supporting us. It doesn't matter what sort of relationship your parents are in, whether it be straight or gay couples, they're still there to help and support you. These days might be given a descriptive name but that doesn't mean that's the way people need to celebrate them
Personally I believe that would be a great idea. I think it's best to celebrate both our parents because some people don't have both parents or have gay parents. It's not fair that the world has only 2 days reserved for a heterosexual couple

Today's world has proven anyone can find justification to make nearly any belief valid, raising the question who decides? Father's Day isn't forced on anyone to celebrate, it's like saying should Christianity be banned because it's disrespectful to women; 21st century has proven nearly anything can be twisted to justify as insensitive, disrespectful, etc. by ignorant people.

For example, like a court proceeding, I would research, understand the intent of Father's Day, where it came from, why I celebrate it before mindlessly going forward with dogmatic tradition (how many who criticize took steps to even understand the intent/purpose beneath what they're attaching vs. simply assume intent and label it "disrespectful", "insensitive", or whatever else.
If anyone decides this, I'd like it to be someone competent, who actually opens their mind to, first, explore opposing ideas, with the understanding theirs could be wrong, and in search of clearest understanding, while many selfishly only condemn and attack those who have different conclusions, often with little interest, or effort, to even understand any conclusion that isn't already labeled "correct" in their mind.
To answer directly, my experience is people need to stop being ignorant, arrogant crybabies, and actually know how to approach assessing, researching, concluding, etc., before even considering acting (i. e. critical thinking), skills which many today seem to even lack development of.
Much of the people answering these questions, today, would be like having someone with no musical background, education, or knowledge, try to write a concerto (but few have thought about the process of their behavior, only mindlessly react like robots)
It is simple, we either celebrate both or neither. Yes there are single mothers, but the ignorant seem not to care that there are also single fathers too.
