I read that during colonial times they mixed with Mexicans. Is that true?
It's Spanish, not Mexican. It was part of the Spanish Empire for a while. The country name itself is named after the Spanish King Phillip. Many of the city names are Spanish. So are many of the sir names of the people. They are also mostly Catholic because of the Spanish influence.
The people are mostly natives from various ethnic groups, with some others thrown in. The language is also native, with some others thrown in. I don't think they mixed with the Spanish the way the natives of Central and S America did.

Southeast Asian Negritos, Mongolians (both in in pre-history), Chinese, South Asian Indians, Indonesians, Spanish/Mexicans and white Westerners (from WW2). Their Hispanic names and Catholic religion come from the Spanish/Mexican occupation. They are definitely hybrids with a long-ish lifespan despite lousy medical care.
Okay… my dad’s dad was 100% Spanish. My late (Rip) dad looked more foreign than Filipino. My mom’s father was 100% Chinese. My mom looks like the Asian moms from China and Korea with the curly hair. But me I always get native Indian from Canada when my hair was long and black.
Most of them are almost fully native Filipino. The Spanish mixture is there but usually very little, like less than 10% on average. A few are mixed with Mexican, but tbh Guam is the one that actually has more "Mexican" and Iberian genetic input.

Mexicans, no? I mean, in the U. S. it's common to see half-Mexican half-Filipino, but in the Philippines the ones that are mixed are mostly mixed with Spaniards, because the islands were a Spanish colony. That's why they have names like Quam Ping del Torro. They call them "Mestizos"
Some Filipinos are mixed with Spanish, some Japanese, some Indonesian... But most of them are pure Filipino.
