Discuss: Should prisoners be allowed or denied conjugal visits?

Conjugal visits usually take place in designated rooms that are come modestly furnished with a bed and other amenities.
Supplies such as soap, condoms, lubricant, bed linens, and towels may be provided.

Should prisoners be allowed conjugal visits?

It depends on what they're convicted of. Giving a convicted rapist or pedophile a conjugal visit is a little inappropriate.

There's a school of thought that suggests if you treat men like animals they become what you expect. It's called the Pygmalion effect. Psychological experiments a few decades ago - the "woke" mentality wouldn't allow them now - proved that treating men confined aggressively tended to make them more aggressive. A group of psychology students were at random allocated roles as guards or prisoners in one study. The results were ugly.

White collar or non-violent criminals who are married then yes, give them a chance to preserve the relationship.

The mentality back then wouldn't allow it either man, that's why it was cut short? They didn't realize how fucked up it was gonna get. Do you really think it would be okay to run something like that

I studied a social experiment on two continents a while ago. A church bought a private prison in Venezuela and fired the entire staff. They replaced them with counsellors and after a year the in-prison murder rate had dropped to zero. The warring gangs started working together to fix living conditions for everyone. Guards and inmates worked together.

The other was a Scandinavia prison where the inmates actually opened the outer doors for visiting. No guards were armed and again, counselling was provided.

In both cases, treating the inmates with simple human decency changed them.

I should add, both were Maximum Security for violent offenders.

Prisoners are meant to be outside of society in punishment of their transgressions. So no nookie with their spouse until the debt is paid.

I think it should be allowed based solely on the seriousness of the crime.

well there already allowed such visits unless there high risk prisoners or something so why does it really matter

No unfortunately sex and sexual deprivation is part of the punishment.
