Compare this to the Cuban missile crises. We risked nuclear war because we considered it a threat to us. Even more so, Russia considers this a threat to them. The Russians have put their nuclear weapons on high-alert. That is a very powerful message as to how seriously they take this crisis. With their nukes on high-alert, a first strike to take out their nukes is not possible. So, if the Russians start losing, Americans need to understand that very likely they will die.

Personally I think the US and Europe should just let anyone from Ukraine immigrate legally, let Russia have a empty country with no people in it... or only freedom fighters who do terrorist tactics for eternity. What is happening with the war crimes there is the only reason I think it should be stopped, raping women and children is a major war crime that Russia will never answer for. That alone to me, is worth nuclear war... if mankind cannot protect women and children from rape as a war crime, we do not deserve to exist... as a rape victim, I'd rather the whole world be destroyed first before allowing anyone else to go through that.

Well, most people attend public schools where they are indoctrinated to be obedient serfs and to trust the government and to believe their media regardless of how often they misrepresent and lie. And, once people have that belief system they automatically reject anything that doesn't fit their beliefs.

As long as people are entertained and have their basic needs met, things will not change; especially, since they have bribed the intellectuals (college professors, etc.) with cushy jobs and a platform (the media) to speak from. Intellectuals that don't go along with the program, find they are on the outside looking in with no way to speak because the media denied to them.

Perhaps things will change if we have economic collapse, a 100 million people go to bed hungry, and ten million are starving. Otherwise, it may only get worse.

I would not worry about it because, even if there was an exchange of tactical battlefield nukes, I don't think either side would use strategic nukes. It is in no one's interests to do so.

However, yes, fighting for Ukraine is worth it.

That said, the West screwed up right after the fall of the Soviet Union. Had the GOP leadership at that time taken the correct approach (*), things would have been better and all of this would have been avoided.

(*) 30 years ago, former GOP President Richard Nixon stated what should have been done and successfully predicted what would occur if we didn't do that. Well, Bush 41 didn't do that - it wasn't "prudent at this juncture" - and that begat Putin.

If there any nuclear weapons used over the Ukraine, it will be the Russians who will use them in an EPM disruption role as the Ukraine armed forces have little in the way of EMP hardened electronics, and those will air burst detonations to maximise the area effect, I would not be surprised if they are detonated over the Sea of Azov or the Black Sea so as to mitigate any destruction over Russia or the Ukraine, and as I'm in the UK It is more likely that we'll get any fallout similar to what happen after The Chernobyl disaster 26 April 1986, but Air burst's would mitigate any fallout.
