From my understanding there is no difference between these two as no true democracy exists.
(Not speaking about left or right views because they are obviously very different but more just what a democracy vs republic is supposed to be.)
Since the definition of pure democracy in which the power is exercised directly by the people rather than through representatives. Which means even voting for a democratic president is a Republic ideology.
There is short examples of true democracy in a sense but these are still of course within republic systems. For example a true one to me was Brexit, simply you voted in or out then that would change the path of our country.
Now imagine if that was done with weed? Simply as a whole country you just vote yes or no to legalise it.
Now imagine this for another law and another.
But that's not how it works anywhere in most cases the government still just decides upon it's self and representatives than people's votes. Because you can bet in a pure democracy weed would be legal in Uk by now lol.
This all been said the final message to me is people are saying one thing but want another.
Oh you want a democracy? Then why are you voting for a representative when that's republic ideals. Why are you voting for someone who won't let you vote to change laws?
Oh you want to vote for republic? Then wait... you do want representatives and the government having more control but didn't you just say that's a communist idea? And that you actually want more freedom but your asking for less?
Anyway my point don't really have anything to do with this sign just more observation on how confusing politics is.
The funny thing is, this is all about politics. This person has no principles. To obtain their political goals, they would embrace whatever governing philosophy to instill their political worldview. We never understood the "communism vs capitalism" was a fake argument. These dudes will be communists, fascists, or whatever. . . for as long as they can install a racist, sexist, xenophobic vision for their government.
Which team has been saying that "democracy is on the ballot?" Democracy is about voting, so what are they afraid of? Why are they afraid of voting and letting the people decide who they want?
That sign screams, desperation.
it also screams of 'we want fascism' to me too
Absoulately, screw democracy and let me be a dictator already

Personally I grew very tired of constantly hearing “our very democracy is at stake” before the midterms, for two reasons. First, we are NOT actually a democracy, we are a representative republic (thank God!) could you imagine the public having to go to the ballot several times a week, because whenever we need to vote on a “supplemental spending bill”, or an “extension for the budget” the entire electorate would have to go and vote on lt! The second reason is the absolutely terrible impression it gives… if you VOTE for the party that isn’t us, then there will be NO more democracy! It’s not only ridiculous on it’s face, it’s a complete oxymoron… Voting for NO democracy! I think whomever came up w/ this talking point should be blacklisted from EVER creating electioneering materials again!
With how bad you idiots fucked up the country, you shouldn't be surprised we want a one party state? Why should a large portion of the population suffer at the hand of someone they didn't vote for. This is not democracy.
So we should ignore what the voters want if its not who you personally want is what you're saying?
lol ohhh youuu little fascist you... get fucked!
I strongly disagree with sign. I'm sorry, but this question made me laugh 🤣🤣🤣
lol yeah its like they aren't even trying to hide it anymore.
No, they aren't Lol
I think this guy should be president
There's one in every crowd.
Disturbingly, the sign seems to have been mass-produced.
Not a message that I endorse.
Honestly at this point while I disagree democrats are becoming annoying as well as Republicans. Both r just annoying and idiots n their own ways
I strongly agree with the point the sign is making, assuming it's not seriously asking people to vote against democracy.
I think democracy is bought by corporations. So in a way it’s overrated, but not because of some Democrat/Republican divide.
I disagree with this sign
By the people. We are a Democracy, we are not a communistic dictatorship like the conservatives and trump supporters want.
The United States is most definitely not a democracy, we are a republic. (Did you not take civics?)
if we were a democracy, THE PEOPLE would have to vote on every single law, every appropriations bill, every supplemental appropriations bill, the confirmation of federal judges, cabinet members, and heads of all governmental organizations, like the CIA, FBI, NSA, & Attorney general et al.
IF we were a democracy we would likely have to go to the polls two, three, or more times a week and vote on the minutiae of governmental bureaucracy! Now, because that would be an unsustainable government, our founding fathers decided that we would be a republic, a representative republic, wherein we the people vote for representatives to go to Washington on OUR behalf and vote for ALL of those things and many more instead of us. Which is why we are a republic, and NOT a democracy. It worries me that so few people understand this most basic fact about our country, and believe that we ARE a democracy! You may be confusing the fact that during elections we use the democratic process to elect our representatives and all office holders responsible to the people, Incld the president, but we are most assuredly not a pure democracy, it could be said that we are a democratic republic, but not a democracy! Thanks for your time, Laura. (Proud registered Democrat, sad Val Demmings voter!) Source: www.worldatlas.com/.../...blic-or-a-democracy.html
I would disagree in only that Repubs don’t want people to vote.
I hear those names a lot but I don’t really know what they are
I'm not touching this one... too many radicals here
Democracy is dogshit.
name a better form of government.
and ill also leave this quote here by a famous figure republicans idolize:
I have no opinion on this sign.
wuss :P
did you vote?
I agree with the sign. A republic is better than a democracy.
I disagree
