Because they think that doing certain things makes them a good person, and since your occupation is one of the things you do most (typically), they think that makes them good.

And, you know, most people would agree that the reverse is true; that certain occupations make someone a BAD person. It would only stand to reason that it could be reversed, unless your threshold for "good" is higher.

Because they obviously had low self esteem and insecurities that made them choose and work hard for that profession. A genuine person who chooses an occupation because they love it doesn't feel the need to act superior to others. Some people feel that because they worked hard through college, they earned the right to behave superior but thats not true. No one is superior to anyone. You can be proud of your accomplishments but have no right to treat people less than you.
