I think this falls under the category of stuff we should stop worrying about.
If someone wants to kill themself, it's nice to have some people try to talk others out of it but it's ultimately a person's own decision. But the last thing society should be doing is inventing little rooms that just make it as easy as possible.
A smart man once said that depression and suicide take place when a person feels that there is no solution to their problem, they're stuck in a dead end of sorts.
Why would you make the "kill yourself" solution require less conviction than filing for bankruptcy?
I get that it's probably dangerous to have people jumping off bridges and buildings and stuff but I think there's a point where as humans we need to question how healthy it is to isolate ourselves from eachother to the point where we've decided that someone deciding to kill themselves is so much of a burden that it's better to just help them do it.
Because even though I know most of the people supporting it don't see it that way, that's what the net affect seems to be.
Only in situations where a person has a real terminal illness and is in chronic pain. But the terms such as “illness” and “pain” are getting more and more subjective nowadays and that’s dangerous.
That can lead to severely depressed people making a decision there is no coming back from. This is where I see all this evil crap leading too and I 100% disagree with it.
Depressed people need to get treatment first because it’s something they can recover from. If they really do want to check out then there is no stopping them if they want to proceed on their own. But “assisting” that process is heinous.
Getting help / treatment for depression. In my experience the psychologist and the mental health team were the ones who pushed me to the brink of ending my life. I still have depression and I battle it everyday, but I will never ever step foot in another psychologist room ever again, after the horrible experiences I had with them. I can't speak for everyone, but a lot of people's depression has ended up being a lot worse after trying to get treatment. It sucks.
@LoneleeGirll an older friend of mine who is going through absolute hell on earth right now once told me that “suicide is a permanent solution to a temporary problem”. That stuck with me.
That’s not to take away with whatever you are experiencing. But I’ve had moderate to sometimes severe depression for the better part of my life.
Last year was one of the worst years of my life due to a financial calamity that has destroyed several dreams and hopes I had. Including the hope that a decent woman would see me as responsible and financially viable enough to support a family. I’m scared that I might never find that. I’m 41 now. So I am not going to say the thought hasn’t ever seriously crossed my mind either. No one gives a shit about average single middle aged men. There is a reason why men have 4x suicide rates compared to women.
Still though I refuse to go out that way. No. I got a picture of a one year old boy on my fridge who is smiling and cute as can be. That little boy is me.
That little boy didn’t think he would become a grown up that would ultimately kill himself. I am not going to let him down.
In places where this is legal (such as my area) the doctor nor anyone else is allowed to assist the person directly.
If you have a terminal illness and meet the legal requirements to end your life the doctor can prescribe the sedative and the end of life medication, but are not allowed to administer the medication. Which is cruel.
⚠️
The patient has to take the sedative (with timing) and hope it kicks in before taking the remaining meds and hope to not suffer the end of life medication consequences.
Not nice.
So, yes I agree with the idea. Just not the current process.
Ya, that process needs to be worked out better! Switzerland has Suicide Pods, which sounds a lot easier and safer.
I think assistant suicide is great. You get to choose to leave when you want to, you can have more control over how you’re remembered. Have one last birthday party, and then say goodbye. Another reason I like it, it is, then you don’t have to say I want to kill myself while I still can. You can just wait and then know that you can decide to you later, even if you’re physically to disable to do it yourself.

Who decides which is acceptable? What happens when we compromise a few times and suddenly depressed people are offered suicide? What about the normal depression women get when pregnant?
We have allowed slight changes that have escalated over time. Remember when gays were afraid to be beaten in the streets? Now there’s some that think it’s homophonic to not wanna sleep with them. When you make small allowances over time you lose ground and eventually the other side just gets full control.
Yes. If I could have found someone to remove the tools that I would have used to end myself peacefully, I'd already be dead. I have less reason these days since I've been reunited with the love of my life... even though I wouldn't ever become romantically involved with again. Life has high points again and I live without dependencies on anyone but the garbage collectors and the feed and seed stores. Of course, I still have those dependent on me such as the tax commissioner, my ex-girlfriend (it's complicated because we're in love but can't stand living together), and my livestock and gardens. Depending on the reason for the desired suicide, I might be in favor of it being assisted because quality of life that is in the person's power is no excuse for suicide.
I think there are always exceptions, but the criteria should be very, very high.
Especially the elderly with major health complaints make this a hard question; My grandmother was >90 and couldn't see much anymore, couldn't get out of bed anymore, needed assistsnce with everything, had trouble talking/understanding, husband long gone, many of her children long gone.. Honestly, when she passed (naturally), it was better for her. She had talked about suicide for about 30 years at that point, since before I was even born.
Consider these cases when you consider declining assisted suicide altogether. Nothing to live for, no chance of recovery and no joy to be found; Death can be a mercy.
I agree with it. The person is going to pass away anyway. Why prolong their suffering and pain if assisted suicide is something they want. Do we make animals suffer when they have a terminal illness or they are in a lot of pain that medication doesn't really help with? No we don't. We allow them to pass away so they don't suffer anymore.
It should be.
But what if the sick person doesn't fully want to die but feels the guilt of being a burden to their family, or they are manipulated into asking for assisted suicide?
How would we know that?
If this could be secured, then yes, absolutely. Every person deserves to die in the way they want to when faced with a terminal disease.
Someone with a terminal disease has ONLY 2 options: a horrible, probably painful and lengthy death OR choosing their own exit time, place and method.
I believe there should freedom. I don't believe I should be the property of the USA government. Unless they are dying from cancer or otherwise suffering from unbelievable physical or mental pain very few people will commit suicide. Regardless, if you believe in freedom and not government ownership of people, you will believe that is their right.
They want us dead... that's the message I'm getting from the way things are. I wouldn't be surprised at all if some monetary migrant would get denied assisted suicide because he probably votes the right way. All this type of shit is just going to get worse before it gets better.
yes, controlled with rules, but yes. no reason to make people suffer and slowly die when they want to die quickly.
I was forced to watch die slowly while caring for her, nothing we could do other than watch her slowly suffocate over weeks.
No, I don't agree with it. Palliative and hospice care has come a long way over the years. As long as there are means to keep terminal patients safe, clean, and comfortable as they approach end of life I can't make an argument for legalized medically-assisted suicide.
So you think suffering with pancreatic cancer until it kills you is better?
That’s not what I said. Since palliative and hospice care does not prolong or shorten life and is readily available in the US to manage pain and provide comfort at end of life, I see no benefit to using medical science to end life. If someone is bent on suicide, that’s fine, go for it. Swallow drain cleaner, cut wrists and bleed out, overdose on meds, or put a gun to the head and pull the trigger. I’ve seen enough cases of each. But don’t put it on the medical community to “assist.”
That's NOT what I said. "Medical Assistance in Dying" is legal and accepted by doctors in my country as a way to humanely relieve the suffering of those patients wanting to die painlessly on their own terms with dignity.
I’m well aware of Medical Assistance in Dying and every other term used to refer to it, as well as the jurisdictions in the US where it is legal. The means to humanely relieve the suffering of those patients wanting to die painlessly on their own terms with dignity already exists. That’s what palliative and hospice care is all about, and is readily available to those who need or want it.
I'm well aware of what palliative and hospice is SUPPOSED to do. The system doesn't ALWAYS work the way it should, because of shortages of staff, money and space!
I think we agree to disagree.
Agree. But I don't think anyone else should have access to that option, just the patient. The doctor shouldn't be able to prescribe it. Insurance shouldn't be able to cover it unless the patient wants it. Everyone has to pretend like it's not an option, unless the patient wants it. Because otherwise, that's a lot cheaper and easier than continuing hard treatment for limited results. But that should still be a legitimate option and the patient shouldn't feel pressured out of it by anyone.
Much can be said and argued about the subject of euthanasia, or "assisted suicide" as you like to formulate. Ultimately, as in other sensitive matter, it's ultimately only up to the involved patient and the doctor, sometimes a confessor or some family members if the patient lost their wits. No one should emit any judgment.
We had to put our cat to sleep the day after Christmas because of aggressive and painful cancer and kidney failure and a host of other problems. In my family we like pets more than other people. If it's good enough for pets I don't see why not for people.
100%
If party A wants to die, genuinely wants to die, and party B is willing to do it, that should be ok as long as video evidence is obtained that this agreement was reached. I already told my best friend that if I became crippled or something and I couldn't do it myself, he's to do me the mercy of putting me out of my misery.
It seems the question is regards those who are facing a life threatening condition.🤔 We know what we feel today when we are down, but we must remember the time of ease that always comes after our pain.🌹 Suicide... not the best option. Assistance for such... not the best of help
In extreme cases where there's no hope for recovery and someone is in constant severe pain.
Not the way the fucking Canadian government wants to do it though. A crippled veteran asked for a chair lift and they said no and offered her assisted suicide instead. WTF?
They're also trying to open it up to include mental illnesses like depression. Has everyone in the western world gone insane?
I should also mention that the disabled are getting medically assured death because of poverty here.
So rather than offer humanitarian aid it's a choice between harsh winter homelessness as a disabled person or death. Canada is such a wealthy country too, it's inexcusable.
I think its very acceptable. How cruel can you be to force someone to stay alive who is restrained to a hospital bed, has constant pain and won't get out of hospital anyway. won't that be considered torture. Its an act of mercy to grant that person death
After witnessing the horrible pain my friend endured from terminal pancreatic cancer, it was a great relieve that she got to leave under her own terms with her dignity intact. She planned her own Celebration of Life right down to food! It was BEAUTIFUL!
a peaceful way to leave. i hope i get this chance
I pray for the same option
Let me tell you my experience. I suffered from psychosis few months ago. In that time i hallucinated about some weired things. I felt like police and neighbours were chasing me to kill. So i drove a bicycle and came accross a river. I was thinking about suicide, but then it didn't happend becoz i don't know why my brain was showing me my families pics, my mother, my brother, my father then i left off eventually. But that was really traumatic
I don't see it as "assisted suicide". Some people are in pain and know they're gonna die, and we shouldn't force them to suffer. If it's legal on animals and death row inmates, it should be legal on the rest of us as well
i agree 100% and if terminally ill I would 1st request a DNR And 2nd I would want strong narcotics to keep me mobile until I start losing body function. once i start becoming an early stage vegetable i would take the whole bottle of narcotics and down it with Bacardi 151 so if and when the ambulance arrives they will see the DNR and let me rest in peace
I agree with assisted suicide l. I have lived for years in excruciating pain all over my body, and was bed bound for years.
The only reason I kept enduring horrible pain us because I have a son that needs me.
I think it would depend on the situation. If you had a terminal illness and end stage I feel putting you out if your Missouri would be ok you would do it for your dog wouldn't you.
Assisted suicide can very quickly become encouraged suicide. There are more and more stories out of Canada of people opting for it without terminal illnesses. With very few exceptions I don’t think it should be a thing.
No I don’t. Especially because in Canada they’re pushing suicide on everyone like disabled vets and even the mentally Ill
What? No. We should not be encouraging or promoting suicide, more because we want the person to live.
Are you FOR or AGAINST assisted suicide?
I don't know what to say. I think it is acceptable but it's not something I would do. I mean at times I was in physical pain but I chose life everytime.
I think it has a lot to do with the culture
I absolutely agree that people with terminal illnesses should be able to end their lives with dignity. However, what we’re seeing in Canada is now the government is pushing suicide for all manner of illnesses to save healthcare costs.
Yes I do, but in absolute extreme circumstances only.
I'm all for it. As long as your debts are paid and you want to check out, let's do it in a nice and painless way. No one asked to be born and I can understand if someone wants to check out early.
I don’t even draw the line at “assisted”. My life, my choice. End of discussion.
Why only people with a terminal disease? If someone wants to check out they should be able to. As long as they aren't being coerced
I disagree with it. The slippery slope is real, and the potential cost savings for government healthcare programs provide a perverse incentive.
100% agree with it. It's in inhumane and cruel to see someone or animal needlessly die of a slow and agonizing death without hope of getting better.
Yes, but libtards in Europe need you to be vaccinated before your assisted death.
God forbid you should die before you help out big Pharma.
From the example in the picture I agree. I also understand why evangelical majority would disagree.
Yes and if ot was legal and I had the money I would do it
I would do it even if it were NOT legal.
Morally, maybe not. But from a legal perspective, I don't think it's something people should be jailed for
Yes, one of my biggest regrets is failing to kill myself. I'd try again if I wasn't so afraid of failure.
I think it depends on the degree of "assistance". If you're just making the means available I think that's fine. But the suicide has to take the final action of their own free will.
Absolutely. I watched my sister turn into a skeleton before my eyes. She wasn't even 40. A few days less suffering would have been a blessing for her.
Yes but only for people that are intractable pain. I'm not in favor of this for psychiatric illness at all.
I mean if the person is making a choice to die early when there already gonna die, it's their choice.
Absolutely not.. Its only for god to decide when that time is!!
No, all suicide should be a felony and parents of that child must be forced to be sent to rehab
No but the government will use it to clean up the homeless and the poor people. You must live in Canada?
Nope I don't agree with it if someone want to die then that's their decision but I'm not gonna help them
I’m okay with it. Some people are literally on their last last leg, their existence is so miserable, and there’s no chance of their condition improving in any way.
If someone doesn't want to stay alive, why should they be forced to?
I wish I could get it, so I dont have to be a virgin forever while being made fun of.
After watching my wife on end of life power of attorney go 19 long days yes I would
Yes, because killing people would be my dream job.
Actually, I do agree with this, and some states are starting to make it legal.
it should certainly be a choice
Nope it is evil.
I disagree that's just fucked up
No... not at all.
Why not?
I hope you never have to face that decision
Please explain
Umm. Okay. Wanna DM it?
LOL! Gotcha
@Abdres77 I respect your opinion. However, I'm not sure you have had excruciating pain in your body for you to endure for years. I have, and at times I just wanted it to FULL STOP! 16 years was all I could take. If it weren't for the fact that I have a son that needs me, I would have checked outta here!
You see, pain doesn't kill you, the diseases you get do kill you, slowly and very painfully at times.
I don't know if you know about the law (I think it's a law?) that President Trump put into place called either one last try or one more try. It's for people that want to try everything possible to get well and not die. I don't know a lot about it, but I do know it's a choice for some people. Thanks to President Trump!!!
yes after all the checks
Hell no. 100% disagree.
I think it a personal choice
No. Too much potential for abuse.
