In other cases I think it's a pity to throw it all away and you'll never give yourself the chance to beat your demons, to live again, to thrive.

+1 yI'm for it. I'm not saying it's right thing to do. There's two scenarios... the body is healthy or it isn't.
Body is irrepairably damaged: If someone is suffering from physical limitation, certain death, pain... to me it's pointless to force them to survive when they don't want to. I had that situation having to watch my parent die slowly by suffocation, rather than end it fast. We do this with "lower animals"... no offense to cats and dogs, but humans are forced to suffer. Makes no sense in the context of a controlled exit. (RIGHT suicide)
If the body is healthy, it means the mind is just screwed up and the body is mis programmed. I'd still accept suicide based upon right of freedom, but all it really means is the mind is communicating that a change needs to be made and they, to date, don't want to. Emotional pain is real and as powerful as physical... it's telling us something is wrong. There are solutions to this, like changing ones beliefs, removing/reprogramming problem experiences. Hello... Jesus? The society uses meds to manage such emotional problems and that is... generally speaking... stupid. (ok suicide, but have good alternatives.)
I'd prefer people end their life rather than take out a bunch of other innocents. For this reason, I generally give respect and regards to those that wish to end their own life. I'd much rather cheer them on to live their "better life", overcoming the damage spewed at them from this world and get past it... it's really refreshing to see and have seen it many times. Reality is, we are all just little children thrown into a cess pool that have to figure out how to make it out the other side to land in a beautiful garden.

Plenty of stoic philosophers mention a rational exit, there is a longstanding tradition of belief in and support of everything you said.

@Sixgunsound Didn't know that, thank you!

Seneca and Epictetus are a great jumping off point for further research
+1 yI don’t think it’s the right choice. It’s a permanent solution to what can be a temporary problem. We know that most suicide attempts are impulsive and can be reactionary- for example, in reaction to a breakup. This signifies that the individual does not have a strong support system to lean on, which may have prevented them from going to a drastic measure due to an inability to cope.
When it comes to chronic disease or illness, especially ones that are degenerative or cause significant daily pain, discomfort, or loss in quality of life, I think assisted suicide is the proper way to go about it. If the ill individual is in a jurisdiction where this is not legal, I understand.
Even people in the worst situations- homeless, heartbroken, experiencing addiction, grieving, or whatever else, have the ability to improve their situation with some support and time. So while I respect and have empathy for people who are actively suicidal, I don’t think it’s the right choice and wouldn’t encourage it unless in extreme circumstances of incurable (physical) pain or illness. Everyone deserves help and support.00 Reply
+1 yYes and no, I fully support it as a right if they are terminal anyway, say suffering from terminal cancer with no cure.
However if they are simply in a depressive mood or downturn that is likely temporary once their situation changes, I'm not for that.
I would hate to see many young healthy people simply go into a suicide pod because their boyfriend/girlfriend broke up with them. As they feel like their life is over.
Lets face it, life sucks and most people will suffer from depression and want to die at some point, even if they don't act up on it.
There is a reason that there is soo many suicides using guns, and regardless of legal or not. Anyone can always decide to end their life and do so.

+1 yWell, I'll do what I can to help the person, if it's because of depression or a feeling desperation it could be that they don't have resources for what they need to heal. As a nurse I do sometimes care for patients that have attempted suicide or have suicidal thoughts. Sometimes I've seen them later out and about and with medications, therapy, community resources etc. they have improved so I know it's worht a try to help them. However, that beign said if their physical or emotional pain is too great and unable to be treated I certainly won't judge them if I think the next time they will try and be sucessful. However, they can't tell me about it if they are my patient because by law I'm required to report it.

@abc3643 mentioned a good point in the comments that there could be someone reading this contemplating suicide. So I wanted to point out one of the national resources that is out there for those living in the U. S. https://988lifeline.org/ There are other resources also free and local to ones area that can be found with a google search.

We are taught in hospital security that the ones that tell someone about their SI aren't at the stage of going through with it yet, they still want help. The serious ones just do it.
871 opinions shared on Society & Politics topic. for, its your body & life you should be able to decide whatever the fuck you want to do with it. if you want to stop living you should be able to do that
i'm only against it if they're kids/younger teens or their not in their normal state of mind

+1 yAgainst it because that person is not their self, and they are likely to be very depressed. They need help with their issues, and not commit suicide.
An exception "might" be if they are suffering from some painful or debilitating illness and not just depression. Just my opinion.

The Canadian government is telling veterans and other people with expensive health needs to fuck off and kill themselves because socialized medicine isn't cheap.

+1 yIt depends on the conditions. If it is someone dying from a horrible disease, then I think they should be allowed to make the decision not to suffer anymore.
For someone perfectly healthy to say, that is not right, doesn't know their pain and should keep their opinion to themselves.
If they were in the same position and chose not to because it was against their beliefs then more power to them, but they should not apply their opinion/beliefs to someone else.

+1 yIm very much against.
I’m not religious and don’t believe in God, heaven and hell but my mother partner who I am not biologically related too sister committed suicide and it still affects and upsets him very badly to this day.I never met his sister before but I’m sure his sister didn’t have any incurable illnesses. She must have just been very unhappy in life. I was also told by my mother she used to do drugs.
10 Reply1.9K opinions shared on Society & Politics topic. Depends. Suicide is a permanent solution to a usually temporary problem. So for medical reasons I believe that people have the right to terminate their care. But for things like financial setbacks, criticism etc. No it's ultimately a selfish act.
00 ReplyFor. Obviously they should get as much help as possible before legally allowing something like that, but I'm for some kind of humane suicide assisted solution.
Now you could argue that it would be a bad idea for people with depression and such, but at least offer it to people that are already old or dying, so they don't have to just suffer in their last days.

+1 yIt's only illegal so government can steal their property from inheritors. I don't see why government should get anything they didn't earn. I certainly don't!
10 Reply 5.7K opinions shared on Society & Politics topic. I know that this is an honest question, but it's really inappropriate here because a person reading the opinions might then be motived to kill themselves. So, don't be surprised if this question gets pulled.
02 Reply18.6K opinions shared on Society & Politics topic. For. With regulations and processes that would hopefully decrease significantly the amount of suicides. Like having phones on Golden Gate Bridge does currently.
Instead of having guns legal and able for suiciders to purchase and kill themselves and hurt others on their way out…. not in their right minds.00 Reply- 2.3K opinions shared on Society & Politics topic.
+1 yI’ll never be for it. If they go through with it then thats on them but i won't think good thoughts about them having done it. AND I dont support assisted suicide. I’ll leave the room and they can find another mf to off em

This said if the person has depression then they should need to see if they can be helped first if they can get help then great but if not the Dr could give the unfortunate person some pills so they could go without pain

Indeed plus sometimes it doesn't work if someone does it themselves I remember 1 case where a guy tried to use a shotgun but slipped so he only shot off his jaw
+1 yI am pro-choice. If someone does not want to live anymore, he/she must have a big pain going on with their lives. So it is none of any fuckers' business. So people can do whatever they want. No one can force them to live anymore.

The guy who shot up the church in Sutherland Springs Texas, shot himself, when he was chased after by a guy who "came to the rescue with his own gun". He shot himself, because he knew he'd be caught. Isn't that selfish?

That's why I'm saying, it's their right to, they're perfectly allowed to do it, but, I'm saying isn't it selfish to do it

How is not owning up to your faults, by committing suicide, not selfish and not a bad thing
He got away with murder. That's extremely selfish. And that's wrong - +1 y
And I agreed, that was wrong, and selfishness can be wrong. I never disputed that. But say for example, my mental health got so bad that I didn't see a way out, and blew my head off to stop my pain. Clearly people, meds and therapy didn't help enough. So, what is more moral then, make someone suffer the rest of their life, or let someone die and have some peace?

My mom lost her parents at a young age, deals with multiple health problems, and is currently going through some financial problems. But my dad is so good with her that she is still around. She has depression and uses meds for them too.
