Trending & News If people had to use their real name as their username on this website and have a profile picture showing their face on this website do you believe there would be less cyber bullying and trolling?
No. People would just get more creative in finding ways to insult you or do it more politely.
And that sounds like a f*cking horrendous idea anyway; on some 1984 sh*t. I'd sooner take having my name smeared in real life, than to have internet censorship. Just take a look at pre-Musk Twitter, to see how that plays out, anyway. Real life people with their real names and faces attached to their profiles, are often some of the biggest pieces of human fecal matter to ever walk this Earth.

Twitter is proof that this would not only not-reduce "bullying," but create more "bullying" through cliques and groupthink. It's the internet anyway; "it ain't bullying unless violence is involved."

Really, GAG just needs to charge Xper points for anonymous posts so you can't just do it whenever you want. Of course, this wouldn't stop the throw-away accounts, but it would REDUCE trolling. And the trolls would get sick of being IP-banned and having to use a VPN just to create new accounts on here just to troll.
Yes. Obviously there would still be some for ones that are more brazen. Many of these people would never say the shit they say to someone’s face.
Nah, it would just make it much more... worse and increased number. I get asked all the time, "what's your name?" On this site and other social apps. And I tell them the same thing like they can't read, "Sour-rose." If my actual name was told and forced to be told to anyone, o hell no. I would just withdraw from that site. You know many mofos know my real name and marketing to me? A lot. And with my actual name, i got mofos texting, emailing, and calling me. Even some i don't know.
So nah, only make it much more worse
I don’t think it would stop cyber bullying in general, as there are many other sites out there. It may limit how often people experience it on here, but only slightly. A lot of the negativity I see comes from non-anons.

Ys, verfied identity would probably reduce (but not eliminate) bullying, but it ould also greatly reduce the participation on this site. Many people would never engage in candd discussions on some topics at all if their identities were known. This is not just idle speculation, as I am one who would participate far less under those circumstances.
I wish I chose your answer as best answer instead. I do agree it likely wouldn’t get rid of cyber bullying and troll questions entirely but I think it would decrease the amount. Some people can be mean and cowardly online where their identities are not showing.
Activision-Blizzard (gaming developer) tried to force a “Real ID” of sorts back in 2010 to “reduce online toxicity” and some of the Devs and staff did it first to show what a great idea it was… until they started getting their home addresses doxxed and their families started getting hate mail and threats. Luckily this happened before Swatting incidents became a thing or someone could have been hurt or killed.
The internet wouldn’t be the internet without anonymity. It would be a far more dangerous place. If this site or any site ever pushed real names and faces as a requirement I would delete my account immediately.
Oh for sure. Does make you wonder what we’ll find out later about what’s happening now… not that I think anything could surprise me anymore.
The site would shut down, cause most people would just leave for good... to go through a whole, difficult process, only OF's or other adult sites have just to see that John Doe is a real person, would not only make it so people could try and get him fired from his job in the real world after they tracked him down, simply because they disagree with him.
It also means people wouldn't answer truthfully for fear of consequences. Who would answer honestly if it meant they would potentially become homeless?
Assuming the site stays up anyways.
No there wouldn't be less bullying. People have their real photos and they use their real names on IG, Facebook, Tiktok and they still get bullied
Exactly
To a degree this would help as there is an element of people that hide behind anonymity to bully but obviously bullying and intimidation exist face to face too in environments where even more information is known of them. Careful moderation and zero tolerance of this on websites is really the most preventative but this generally only exists when a site is monetized.
Yes I think there would be less bullying and trolling, however there would also be less of everything else, honestly it would serve no purpose for me so I would not be here. The reason I am here is so I can be more honest than when people do know me.
It wouldn't accomplish anything. It might kill the site but it's not going to do anything for cyber bullying. Look around both the net and the real world, bullying exists in so many forms and forums despite names, ages, two factor authentication, cameras, etc. Bullying is a human thing.
Nope. That would increase the concentration for the simple reason that it is an authoritarian action. People with personalities that abide by authoritarian rules like to command down to people they see as beneath them. All it would do is create a "safe space" for authoritarian bullies, because no one but authoritarians would cooperate.
Think about what you are saying and the reflection verifiable in the real world. No place in this world is fair and stop trying to find one. People, will look you right in the eyes and both steal and beat the hell out of you. And from India, you ought to be immune to this kind of thing unless you were very pampered. They have anon so it is what it is...
No. If anything they would own it more.
Plus, there would be more stalking and attacking, and people hunting you down on your socials to attack you some more.
It's a rather slippery slope. But online or offline, you should never expose yourself to issues you legally don't need to. This includes fuckwits who walk around with tattoo's and chains with their real names on them. Then wonder how people scammed them.
Yes, and there would be less men from the UK pretending to be young promiscuous girls. She/he was 17 and loved to fuck strangers in bathrooms.
Dumb fucks believe this man, and so does gag who promotes him.
No, there would be quite a bit MORE- just from companies and organizations instead of individuals. Just look at Edward Snowden.
If they had a verification system on here, most people would leave in a heartbeat.
Instagram and Twitter very often has people using their real name and picture and still saying all kinds of toxic stuff.
I doubt anything would change here.
a lot of people you feel are anonymous are actually not anonymous at all. But if you got skills to pay the bills & self restraint. Well you would know who most people are already.
Ironic you went anonymous to ask this, which contradicts your point.
Yes. And it's a good direction generally for social media. I note Elon apparently thinks the same with his blue flags.
However, on this site, you may find that people were less interactive with the site due to the nature of the q and a.
Maybe, just like him back to the future 2 win the boss was on the view screen, and had to show all information about him
No, there would just be less people. Asking people to dox them selves to protect users feelings is stupidity at best.
I wouldn't be here so it wouldn't affect me.
Maybe a little less but I'd still be an asshole, since its fun.
No, I think this website would just have even less traffic.
The website would be dead and abandoned
Yes definitely
Undoubtedly.
