A 16-year-old girl died from a gunshot wound to the head Tuesday morning, and the suspect has turned himself in, according to Boone County Sheriff Michael Helmig.

Deputies were sent to a home in the area of Silver Brook and Kingsgate drives in Burlington around 2:18 a. m. after they received a report that someone had been shot.

They say they found 16-year-old Scarlett Tucker in a bedroom with an apparent gunshot wound to the head.

Deputies say they received reports that the suspected shooter, 18-year-old Demarkus Hedges, of Cincinnati, left the scene in a vehicle.

According to the detectives, witnesses said a bag of marijuana fell on the bedroom floor and Hedges demanded that Tucker pick it up.

They told detectives Tucker refused and Hedges then pointed his handgun at her head and fired one shot.

Tucker was pronounced dead at the scene.

My first reaction is I'm angry at the parents, the list of that is long. Sad situation! Howed she end up on tictoc at 16 making videos like tha, end up in this/or her room, with drugs, and how he end up with a gun there? That... is what I'd hate... ultimately, my own decisions to allow that.

I would not blame all black people, my neighbor is black... it's not his fault. There's no way around human reaction that in stress gets to the shortest quickest answer for security. I've seen that more than once, it can go "racist", I've seen it, but it can go other ways. I'm not saying I'm immune but I have faculties to moderate it. I had that reaction to criminal thugs that stole our stuff one night. Note... they weren't black. It's a reaction, we have to learn to be wise and moderate it.

Hate culture that produced this... and then ask what i'm going to do about it.

Hate that black people are failing more than others, yes. What going to do about it...

What I hate is failure and waste, unnecessary misery. I hate the devil... the adversary.. crushing human souls.

When I look at that pic, I don't really see "black kid" so much, he's mixed. I grew up near that area, and Dayton went way bad because of the gangs, especially black gangs. It's still dangeorus as heck.

2nd to last point and I've said this before out here... we need to be careful saying "no" to people. Too many people are poorly trained, due to our failed educating practices and lack of parenting such that they cannot process a "no". It's dangeous. Learn to say yes in the right way, learn to find moderation and peace, but also security. That girl... needed help, out of that situation, and possibly... was being trafficked. She was just treated like a pile of dirt and lost it all.

last point: Be a better day when we can talk about personality and behavior attributes rather than color. "I hate narcissistic poorly disciplined teenage boys that disrespect girls. I hate those M Fer's and I'm gonna work to discipline those boys". That is much more useful!

Note... I don't hate guns, gun not relevant.

We talked about this very issue in my discussion group. But folks ran away from me when I made this statement.

The thing is I think most folks could find a way to empathize with a person who is a victim of a member from a certain ethnic grouping who did something unspeakable evil to their family. I could understand if that family hated me, simply for sharing some approximation of that dude's skin color. Or if the guy identified with my ethnic group.

In fact, this is something anyone can understand.

That isn't racism. That is a normal response from a human being that loved their daughter, sister, niece or friend. But a racist does not hate based upon his personal experience with "Black" people. Anyone having a horrible personal experience with "Black" people could learn to hate "us". But racism isn't' like that. Racism is about my identity alone. A racist doesn't need personal experiences with "Black" people. In fact, he doesn't even need any exposure to "Black" people whatsoever to be a racist.

But there is also this weird aspect to racism. Where if you have a personal experience with racism, with a racist killing someone in your family, chasing you with a baseball bat, throwing bricks at you, etc. you can't be mad at that person or their "race". You can't seek revenge on that person or their race. You can't hate all "White" people because you had a bad personal experience. No one can empathize with you in return. It's like forbidden in American society.

Because then, somehow. . . you are the racist.

Racism is some weird, weird stuff.

No. I'd hate that person. What kind of thought process is that? That's one black man. Not a whole race. There's horrible people in every race. Just look at white people's history.

Why would you ask this?

The copy (the text you used) that you lifted from a news report and used in your description of this question did not mention once the ethnicity of the suspected shooter; you only provided a picture of a young Black man. Now, I want to be clear that I have no doubt that the young Black man pictured is of the suspected shooter. But, suppose you didn't include the picture. Why does it matter? If you hadn't included the picture, you could have asked:

"Would u begin to hate White people if one shot your 16-year-old daughter in the head for not picking up a bag of weed?"

or

"Would u begin to hate Hispanic people if one shot your 16-year-old daughter in the head for not picking up a bag of weed?"

or

"Would u begin to hate Asian people if one shot your 16-year-old daughter in the head for not picking up a bag of weed?"

or

"Would u begin to hate extraterrestrial people if one shot your 16-year-old daughter in the head for not picking up a bag of weed?"

The text that you copied from never mentioned the ethnicity of the shooter - and for good reason: It's irrelevant. YOU made his ethnicity relevant to YOU and this question by including the photograph.

Let's go back to the other versions of this question... all of them should have the same answer. This isn't an issue of ethnicity; it's an issue a murder, period. Only racists make this an issue of race and ask racist questions like this.

No I would not begin to hate black people even if a person who was black shot my daughter. In this scenario, black people didn't shoot my daughter, a certain ethnicity didn't shoot my daughter -- an individual person shot my daughter.

Just because one black person does something bad doesn’t mean they are all bad. This is a unique case that hardly ever happens between black men and white women. The vast majority of these marriages are successful and don’t involve any abuse at all. Stop making it seem like black men are just abusing white women
