Are gas stoves really a big deal? As far as I know you can still own one in Ireland and Britain its just nobody does. I remember seeing one in an old deserted house a few ago.
Is it really that big an issue that they have to be banned? Surely all they have to do is stop selling the gas cannisters for them. How many people in the US actually have gas stoves for I've not seen one yet? I'm sure they would be great if the electric went out, you could still cook.
Burning coal was a big environmental issue in Britain and Ireland but coal fires aren't banned nor is coal. What the government actually did was to provide grants for people to get oil burners installed on the condition that their back burners in the chimney be disabled so the fire couldn't heat the heaters or the hot water and it worked, so lighting the fire was a waste though you still could. That was before i was born. Any new house built may a chimney and a fire place for cosmetic purposes to sell the house because a fire in Irish and British homes used to be so central but they don't heat heaters or the water.
Another one recently was the government gave out new grants for people to make their oil burners and houses more efficient so the likes of my parents got a new boiler installed again after 20 years since the last time, new insulation in the cavity walls and attic, as well as new PVC windows. All of which means they burn considerably less oil and often don't need to.
Let people have what they want, rather than take away choices.
Around here natural gas/propane is far cheaper than electricity, so a coal burning stove would cost a lot more to use. Most electricity here is produced by coal plants, there is one tiny natural gas plant.
Although, personally... I'd just use my wood burning stove to cook, I do quite often. I let the exhaust from that go up the chimney as that is even cheaper than natural gas/propane to use and wood is free for me to get.
I don't care either way, but if they want me to get a new stove, they'll have to pay for it, cause I won't be.
I think the law is just about gas stoves being installed in apartments and houses. But even so, can we not, as a country, make long term laws to benefit the environment?
Only if it costs less, and someone else pays for it. Stoves aren't cheap and my current gas stove will out live me.
You have to realize, that sure people care about the environment, but they care more about how they'll live pay check to pay check first and foremost and anything that makes that more difficult, they oppose in the short term as they do not have funds to survive long term.
If that means paying $40 dollars more a month to use an electric stove, vs. a gas one, most people cannot afford that extra cost.
So the REAL solution here is to not outlaw gas stoves but instead to make electricity cost pennies on the dollar of what it currently does, so lets say it now costs.10 for what used to be a 1 dollar, and electric stoves cost 70% less than gas stoves, what do you think people are going to buy?
Do this without artificially raising costs with government regulation or taxation then saying, there we made this side cheaper by making this side more.
Gas stoves are way better to cook on then electric. Growing up I gas a gas stove, the burners never failed you could use it in a power outage. Now I have electric with in a year I’m down to 1 burner. And I can’t use it when the power goes out. Plus to in order to cook properly and consistently and to get the 5 star Michelin quality food you have no choice but to use a gas stove.
now that being said, It’s not the government’s job nor do they have a right to tell me how much water to use what type of stove I’m allowed to cook on, or how hot or cold my house is, If I want to melt without air conditioning in the summer that’s my choice if I want to freeze in my house in winter because I like the cold that’s my choice, the government doesn’t get to come into my house and tell me what to do. If they did that we’d be in North Korea or China not America.
Why are leftists such dupes and tyrants? It is mind boggling the eco-dupes want to do this. Natural gas was put into widespread use as THE clean alternative to burning coal in stoves and boilers, which were *filthy*. "Home heating oil" was a tad cleaner, but that just drove up the price of a commodity needed for vehicles (after refining, of course).
Electric heating? Far less efficient, far more costly, and largely requiring more COAL to burn! And these ecodupes won't tolerate another reactor built.
Or maybe it isn't mind-boggling. It's about making us poorer and taking away our choices, in other words, tyranny.
The real question is why they are bothering. How many people actually have a gas stove? Is new York prolific with gas stoves? Surely the only people using gas stoves to cook are campers. I have a small gas stove that's for camping, folds up like a suitcase. We lost power last year, it came in handy for cooking as apperently you can't barbecue everything. Oh are the banning barbecues too?
Right. I read about it cuz I have no social life. And it’s mostly a law focused toward housing development. When stoves are installed it’s hard to replace when people are living there. And electric stoves are healthier for obvi.

This is not for the government to decide. It's also not their job to decide what kind of car we drive, what light bulbs we use, where we live and what food we should eat.

Well... to be honest with you, I prefer cooking on gas because it gives me greater control over the temperature so that I can cook better. The electric appliances aren't exactly good for the environment.
