What was the hardest thing you went through in life and how did you get past it?

The hardest thing I've had to get through within the last ten years was certainly the pain of having to spend most of the month of November of last year flat on my back because I couldn't move. It turned out I had to have an expensive operation on my spine, and the pain the problem caused was SO bad that I could barely do anything at all. An ambulance had to be called because there was NO way I was going to get to the hospital any other way, and it took a while for the doctors to find the problem, but the good news is that they didn't give up until it was found, and now I'm perfectly fine, it's like nothing ever happened :D

It's a good thing I was living with my sister; she arranged for the hospital stay, the ambulance and everything else I needed at the time. If I'd been on my own, that would have been the end of me, no exaggeration. I got past all of this by doing whatever it took to fix the problem, paying whatever need to be paid - I didn't care at all about the money. All up it was about $25,000, but I didn't care, I just wanted the pain to stop.

I'm going to be blunt. The hardest thing I went through in life is dealing with childhood trauma involving abuse. There are ways of coping but no avoidance is strong enough to prevent something from triggering a painful memory. It can be something as simple as a smell and it just ruins the entire day. Some of the ways I tried to cope lead me into a depression and a state of reoccurring shame. I guess the most simple way to explain it is that I already reached acceptance in my state of grief; however, finding peace is out of the picture.

I was in my 30s with a wife and 3 kids to support. I was going to be unemployed soon and I we going to school at night to get a degree in Computer Science because I wanted to start a new career. School was not going good and it was unclear it I was able to collect unemployment while I was going to school. Then out of nowhere my father died suddenly. It was just before mid term exams. I did not know how I was going to deal with the funeral and study for midterms at the same time.

I thought about how my father would be telling me don't be a wussy. Study for the damn exams and pass them.

Somehow I was able to pull it all together. I solved most of my issues and graduated and started a new career,

depression... how did I reach to the point in which it has been dormant for the second part of my life? about 12 to 16 years of introspection, support from a few beloved and close ones to me... lot of luck and stubbornness, loss and love

and then even some more luck, because I do believe that my brain also changed and adjusted a bit better in the natura process of developing (the brain is still developed around age 24)

Brutal rape when I was 14 and attempted murder, I'm pretty messed up to this day. Thousands of hours of therapy is great at making therapists rich and not helping.

While I was in the Navy, I had to make a choice one year. That choice, while the right one, cost me shame every year and eventually a promotion. It was still the right choice and that's how I got through it: I did the right thing.

Severe anxiety caused by OCD which led to intrusive thoughts.

It was extremely painful and I had no idea on how to deal with it because it's something that literally came out of nowhere and hit me.

It lasted about 3 to 4 years in that condition.

I overcame with time and just to try to focus all my energy in loving God and going back to church.
