Why doesn’t Miami have as many homeless people as NYC, LA, San Francisco, and Seattle?

I don’t get it. Miami has social problems like every other big city but it seems like it handles most social problems better. Miami has a high HIV rate and people seem to have a lot more sexual partners than Californians but outside of that it seems like Miami handles social problems in a more successful manner.

There are homeless people in Miami. Miami-Dade County currently estimates that there are 1,140 homeless people living on the streets and 2,598 sheltered homeless people. Obviously it's not as bad as Los Angeles County which has 48,548 homeless people living on the streets and 20,596 sheltered homeless people, but people still do struggle in Miami. Miami-Dade County is about a third of the population of Los Angeles County, but homeless people on the streets are 43 times that of Miami not 3 times as you'd expect. Thus it's pretty easy to conclude that better economic policies and better culture in Florida leads to better results.

LA is bigger than Miami. It feels less Urban but it has a lot of space. I would compare Seattle more to Miami.

That's what I said... I said Los Angeles County is three times the population of Miami-Dade County but it has 43 times the homeless people. Area wise Los Angeles County is about twice the size as Miami-Dade County, but 2/3 of Miami-Dade County is the Everglades. So Miami-Dade is actually more densely populated than LA.

LA seems worse than New York when it comes to this thing though which is not easy lol.

Because the government takes a smarter approach towards that problem. A smarter approach. In Florida, you either work to have resources and contribute to society, or get out of the state. As a result, regular citizens and homeless win. In New York, the government steals money from regular citizens and gives it to homeless who use it for drugs and alcohol. As a result, regular citizens and homeless lose.

I think the west coast cities attract drifters because of the mild climate and tolerance. Seattle had a small problem five years ago. Now it's a huge problem and the city officials seem to be in denial. We don't need more housing, we need aggressive enforcement and mandatory drug rehabilitation.

I live in Miami and trust me downtown is literally filled with a bunch of homeless people which left me surprised.

Miami Dade is about 2 million people while New York city has about 9 million and L. A. has 3 million people.

The more the population the more homeless people you get.

If you don't wanna work then you gotta sleep with the roaches and rats in the streets.

It is run by a conservatives governor and has a mostly Republican state legislature. They have common sense solutions to the problem.

I haven’t researched which states have more homeless. But I do know eastern states bus them out west for winter so they don’t freeze to death.
