Confiscate with cops, soldiers and federal agencies going door to door no, thats just a a persecution fantasy eccentric conservativs have like my husband. What they will likely do as they did in Britain, Ireland, Australia and New Zealand is to send everyone who owns one or other weapons they want to ban a letter in the post informing them that assault rifles are now banned and that they have a certain time period to hand theirs in or risk jail. Basically owning one will make you a criminal and very few will risk a jail sentence, losing their job, their home, their marriage, their kids and so on just to hide their AR15 in the back yard

Or they will just ban gun companies from making anymore of them and their parts, the rounds they fire, accessories etc for sale to the public and maybe ban resale. Eventually parts and ammunition will make owning one too expensive.

There's actually no chance of the federal government banning these guns anyway, from either side. Its a great political football for them to get reelected and it supports the US Arms industry. I mean it's win win win for the arms manufacturers and politicians when there's a mass shooting. Democrat politicians start talking about stricter gun laws without any real intention of making it a reality and they get votes, republican politicians start talking about gun rights which gets them votes and because Democrats and republicans are even mentioning stricter gun laws or gun rights this start the mass panic buying of guns and ammunition. Someone told me Obama was the biggest seller of firearms the US ever had during his presidency.

If you look at what a true assault weapon is, very very few people have them in the US as they are full automatics or guns that have options for full auto, semi auto or single shot.

The government can't even decide what a assault weapon is, they often try to designate how a gun looks as a assault weapon, so if it looks scary it must be one.

Semi auto is not a assault weapon, regardless of how they look. Many semi auto rifles don't look like assault weapons but have similar ammo and damage.

As for the true assault ones in existence, they are very expensive, tens of thousands of dollars and the US has a list of who has them. As new ones are illegal to purchase or manufacture and have been for decades. Which means they'd have better luck confiscated those existing ones.

Keep in mind, that is against the law to take away private property like that though. The government would need to purchase them, likely a very expensive prospect for guns that can be 10k plus and people would file lawsuits wanting to get the extra money they spent to register and transfer, etc... back as well.

As for taking them, simply not possible... as that would likely result in a civil war.

First you have problem, what is an 'Assault Weapon'? 'Assault Weapon' is a phrase made up by Handgun Control, Inc and defines nothing. But in answer to the meat of your question, then 'NO' the US Government will not successfully confiscate firearms from its citizens, because it is focused on LEGAL Firearms Owners, instead of criminals who are the real problem.
LEGAL Firearms Owners are 'low hanging fruit' and by definition do their utmost to secure their fire arms, Whereas criminals by definition ignore the law, the BATFE is ineffectual and is not fit for purpose as instances like 'Fast and Furious' only highlights.
You know something has really gone wrong when the number of firearms purchases by first time buyers (mostly democrat voters) pushed last years sales to a total U. S. gun sales for 2021 reached 20 million, and only continued this last year when voters have been told by the US courts not to rely on the police to protect them, along with DA's saying that the will not prosecute criminal for 'minor' crimes.

No, for a couple reasons. First there is no such thing as an assault weapon. That's a political term that has no meaning. Second, they are not capable of doing it. They would lose if they tried.

Plus, every time the government starts talking of such things, the sale of weapons and ammo increases. Probably the large majority of people who own guns like AR-15 would not have them if not for past threats to ban them. I know for sure most of the people I know with weapons like that bought them when the government was talking of banning them.

All the people calling for banning weapons are really calling for the number of those weapons to increase.

This discussion needs to begin with a definition of "assault weapons," as that is a label intentionally misused to try to create emotional appeal to the argument.

No- because "assault weapons" do not exist. Assault is "intentionally placing another individual in reasonable apprehension of imminent bodily harm or offensive contact". The actual harm done is battery. An assault weapon would be the one that makes you jump off a cliff to avoid it hitting you; it's every bit as real and prominent as a "littering weapon" (well, they DO spit shell casings out) or a "fraud weapon". You COULD make a good case for "homicide weapon", though.

"Assault weapon" is just used because it sounds scarier than the more legally accurate term; "battery weapon" makes people think of some kind of laser gun. And in any such case, you should pause and examine why the euphemism (or cacophism, in this case) is being used- in this case, it's to turn public opinion against these weapons and manipulate people into making decisions based on emotion, rather than logic.

Yes I believe they will confiscate citizen's weapon and the citizen's themselves, in fear, will give that freedom over too. The ultimate goal being the end of Bill of Rights.

And elimination of "right to bear firearms" explains half the reason the domestic terrorist are formed and the Communist South Americans are are allowed over the boarder. Add that in with the violent video games kids play and the perfect storm, including means, method, and ends, is here. . When the foreign agents creating the scenarios work in concert, with bombs and guns, then government lock down will occur. No movements, speaking against, and the Bill of Rights terminated.

No. First off there is no such thing as an assault weapon, that is propaganda created by people who have an inferior command of the English language and understanding of the physical realities of life as we know it, i. e. a physical object cannot be an action. The creators of said propaganda piece also have an inadequate understanding of American history. We became an independent nation the last time a government came for our guns, and it's not looking good for the forces of tyrrany this time around, either.

The problem with this type of question is gun enthusiasts love to split hairs on what constitutes an assault weapon. It's important not to get bogged down with minor technicalities and ask what is the selling point of each gun, why would someone choose it.

Those guns which are clearly marketed towards people of a certain mentality ought to be banned.

Not a chance of that. There are 20 million AR15's in America. If some totalitarian government tries to confiscate them, whomever is at the door to do so is already in violation of the Constitution and will pay the price. Most of those AR's have skilled owners. There are about 2.1 million service members and law enforcement combined in the USA and 10 times that citizens armed with semi-automatic carbines. What do  YOU  think will happen? F-15's?
