A barter economy can work on a small local scale. I've lived in a largely barter economy. There was very little money floating around, so a lot of goods, services and equipment were traded. I remember working for a tenth of minimum wage because there was simply not much money around. However I could (and did) trade high value stuff worth a year at that wage, but with no money changing hands.
Without money it's very difficult to do any kind of long distance trading. That's the biggest advantage of money. It also makes multiple party trades easier. A trades something to B, B trades something else to C, and C trades something else to A. It's very difficult to do that without money or it's equivalent, like a chalk mark on a slate.

If you mean where people all go to work each day, don't get paid so they produce stuff and everyone gets free everything.
That would never work, there simply isn't enough of everything for everyone to get something. Think like Fancy expensive cars, only the rich have them now... so when everyone wanted one, there wouldn't be enough so people would fight over it.
If you mean the bartering system, if you have nothing to barter then you get nothing.
If all you have is your labor and you are completely unskilled, no one will want you for much and thus won't barter much with you.
Those with skills, will be able to barter more.
I do like bartering but that alone won't work, haggling and bartering is something my family has done.
People need to be motivated, especially with the internet and lots of leisure activities, many people won't want to work.
We already have that problem now, many don't want to work.
Isn't that what Klaus Schwab wants for all of us, himself and his cronies not included? "You vil hav nothing and you vil be happy"
I suppose if you had particle synthesis and cold fusion and altruistic people in charge of those, perhaps it would work. At our current tech level, no. Barter works if one has a skill that can be traded. I know of one group where people join. There are painters, carpenters, auto mechanics, dentists, even a couple of attorneys, etc. They do work for another member and get "barter money" that they can use with any other member.

No communists tried already and it failed. World without money was to be a highest state of communism. Countries like Poland, where Socialism (a first step to communism) was introduced received the ban on private businesses, as well as: planned economy, forced labor and ration stamps. Guess what. There was nothing in shops. No one wanted to work productively or make any effort. Absurds were rampant in workplaces (rudeness to clients, cleaning service people, who felt that were more important than bosses, coal miners presenting mounds of coal, that were actually sand mounds covered lightly with coal and so on).
To make it work, you would need to teach humans to work hard without any recompense and take only what they truly needed. That would require a drastic change to very human nature.
We would have shortages of everything because people wouldn’t work for free. Earning money for tasks is a reward system. How many people do you know that actually freely volunteer?
yes, the standard of living would collapse. too many won't be as motivated to work. good luck finding a doctor on short notice.
If you have any questions, setup an island and try it.
I think so. We could just implement a bartering and favor for a favor system.
No, not on a major scale at least
