The UBI is a universal basic income. I've seen this topic come up on this site, and many other sites. The macho guys say this is all about lazy people. That's because they have big muscles, and their brains are the size of a chipmunk's brain. My brother and I grew up cleaning and painting houses, so don't ever call me lazy. I was 10 years old when I joined the work force. I just assumed that all kids did the same. (I was wrong)

Back in the day, women took their clothes down to the river to wash them. Now they have machines to do that. Did anyone complain about the machines? I don't think so. Now farmers have self-driving combines. They just go out in the field and do whatever combines do. (I think they cut wheat or other stuff)

It won't happen in my lifetime, but when I come back for the next round, I want to cuddle with my kitty on the couch and watch movies. If you think that I sound stupid, just know that the richest person on the planet agrees with me. It's going to happen, like it or not.

It'd scare me a hell of a lot more if it DID happen- on a sizeable scale, anyway; Alaska gets something similar for oil payouts, and every so often a country in Europe tries it on a small scale- it always falls apart.

The problem isn't physical laziness, but mental- who's handing out the cash? A company that does it is giving itself SERIOUS undue influence in people's purchasing decisions- and if you think that's not a problem, take it up with the drug companies that aren't even allowed to give out PENS to doctors any more. To say nothing of the veterans of Blair Mountain.

Now, if you're having the government do it, that's even worse- you're not only going to cause price spikes by increasing the supply of money without increasing the wealth (which is exactly what brought down the Spanish empire; they succeeded their way into failure), but you're handing the government even MORE power- and the last two years have shown us why THAT is such a horrible idea, even if we somehow missed the lesson before.

There may be answers to those issues; there may even be a mass-scale UBI scheme that somehow works- but dismissing the problems with it as "gripes from macho guys who think we're all just lazy" shows not only a poor understanding of economics, but that you don't have the rational thinking abilities needed to analyze ideas and make political decisions.

Bob and Sally don't have a clue what a ringer is, but it's just a saying. Back in the day, washers didn't have a spin cycle. If you wanted to lose the water, you had to run them through the ringer. That was a scary-ass device. My great grandmother's fingers were so close to the rolling pins, that I couldn't even watch.

According to a recent article in the daily wail the UK is approaching the point where half the population gets more from the state than they pay in, the poorest get £17000 more in benefits than they pay in. It also makes the claim 10% of earners pay half the countries taxes.

What I've noticed at the bottom end is the wage gap between unskilled and skilled workers seems to be getting smaller. It's not hard to hear complaints of "I could earn the same stacking shelves".

I think most people would prefer to earn more than the basic, I know I would. But it would be interesting to see how many would stop working and how that would affect wages as well as what people would do with their spare time.

We have it today and we call it a dividend. I'm from Alaska and we got the PFD, as Alaskan residents we own a share of Alaskan oil resources amd it was like $3000 last year. People get the nessesitys and prepare for winter.

From the stock market we have coka cola, ExxonMobil, and doyon native Alaska corporation that sell shares and by owning a share receive a percentage profit of said share amount.

So now we take this same logic to automation. We tax the productivity of the robot on par with the income tax of a person and give it back to the people as a check.

Gives people breathing room to get educated. Gives pride and monetary incentive to buy American machine made or handmade goods.

I have been predicting this for several years. For those of us that are willing to work. Your employer will directly send your wages or earnings to the government. They in turn will issue everyone a debit card. Every so often they will give everyone their allowance. Rather you worked for it or not.
Then the government that knows better than you on what you deserve or want to buy. Will be able to turn off your allowance if they feel you are buying something that you shouldn’t have. Maybe it would be too much gasoline. If you are diabetic. Too many sweets. Or even the wrong type of stove!
Imagine!!! Gun control without passing a law!
So many possibilities when they control your money. Even your views on things!
I know. There is always bartering. Which I practice now!

Ubi almost happened in 2016! If you've been following the openAI ChatGPT... I think UBI is very possibly in like 10 years. This AI is going to put soooo many people out of work, and it'll only get better. UBI would make people lazy and even depressed, more than a shitty job.. but that's only introverts/extroverts like me who only meets people to hang out with at work... No work, no meeting people, #hellooooodepression. That said... Robots take over more jobs now so I can enjoy my depression single and with my PC games lmao

What's the purpose of that video? You are the one who is ignorant here. It was my profession to design the kind of stuff shown in that video. I even worked in the food processing industry designing and installing machines that replaced human workers. I've seen it first hand with workers that I knew.

Except that it doesn't really replace human workers, it just shifts them to something else. I also trained those workers to use the new equipment. About half the workers who ere replaced ended up running the machines, the rest were moved to other positions in the company.

It means the same number of people produce more, and produce it cheaper. You might not understand it. but it probably ends up with a net increase in jobs.

The real downside is that it elevates the level of education and training required, and reduces the number menial jobs. This means it reduces, or at least changes, the available options for people.

People have been predicting that machines would replace humans for a very very long time. It has never happened. This idea you have that people will no longer need to work is a nightmare scenario. *IF* that should ever happen, which won't be any time soon, I'd hate to live in that world.
