Back in old days we needed a large workforce to work in factories or pick crops. But automation has largely taken those jobs. The reality is even if they study hard a great many of the poor simply don't get a look in when it comes to getting a decent job.

Drive through any deprived area and it's hard not to ask "what are these people for?" They produce nothing and those who work are usually just sustaining other poor peoples by working in local shops etc.

The problem is having kids brings in a child support allowance and guarantees a cheap council house. To some extent it's wiser to get pregnant than go to college. It's not hard to find poor people bitter they did everything their supposed to but are less well off than those who are perpetually pregnant and have never worked a day in their lives.

The problem with stopping their benefits is it's the innocent children who suffer, not their parents

All that welfare on your taxes Is a drop in the ocean, I suspect most of it doesn't actually go to its intended purpose. Regardless investment needs to be made on us kids, we are way behind most countries on basic education and most of our kids that go to college aren't academically fit enough to go to college. It makes as much economic sense to invest in the future education of our kids as it does to invest in our infrastructure.
What I would say is that people who are not obese should pay less than obese people for health insurance as its the obese that's driving health insurance up.
