So, real life traffic situation that I came into yesterday regarding 'right of way'. Quick synopsis, two vehicles at a two-way stop intersection, who has the 'right of way'?

Check out the photo (actual intersection where it occurred) it has all the information needed. Let's hear your theory!!

I was super surprised how split family & friends have been since telling them what happened. Not going to say which part I played in this little scenario quite yet. And, remember this is not a four-way stop intersection.

But, the short answer is Vehicle 2 has the right of way according to Ohio BMV.
Regardless of arriving first, in the instance of a two-way stop, cross traffic has the ROW first, obviously. Then it falls to vehicles going straight or turning right. Unfortunately, if you are at a two-way stop turning left onto the main street you always have the burden of yielding to cross traffic & other vehicles going straight or turning right no matter how many vehicles that be

The vehicle that arrived first always has the right of way by law, but the law is rarely black and white. If there is absolutely no traffic, the driver who arrived first has the right of way. If there is traffic, the driver turning right can safely merge more easily. They have no responsibility to wait for the driver turning left to have a safe opportunity to proceed. If they both go and an accident occurs, both drivers can receive citations for violating basic traffic safety rules.
A tiny bit of courtesy goes a long way in life, especially in traffic.

There is no right of way, there is an obligation to yield and a person making a left turn always has an obligation to yield to other traffic. If 2 drivers are turning left then the second one to arrive at the intersection has the obligation to yield.

From your description, it doesn't matter who arrived first if both have to wait for traffic to clear before proceeding. In that case, the vehicle turning right (2) has the right-of-way.

If there wasn't any traffic on the main road, then the first to arrive (1) has the right-of-way.

When two vehicles arrive at an intersection, the one that arrives first has the right of way. In this case, that's vehicle 1. However, a good driver would probably let vehicle 2 go first because the right turn is easier and quicker to make, and then make the left turn.

I'd say person who got there first since you can't assume who is turning what way. If it was clear whom got there first, they win. that's car #1.

If I had arrived first, and the opposing vehicle had stopped, I would proceed slowly. Proceed cautiously into intersections, then accelerate after clearing the intersection.

I'm not sure who technically has the right of way. But it's common courtesy to let Vehicle 1 go first since they were there first.

I'd say 2 because all that driver needs to do is look left and can go. 1 needs to look both ways including 2 and seeing what they are going to do.

The book probably says vehicle 1 because it was there first. The real answer is the it is the vehicle that is bigger or that it is so beat up the owner doesn't mind another dent.

Vehicle 2 is doing the shortest path turn, so it has priority.
