Newsmax Host Wants Black National Anthem to ‘Be Illegal’

Newsmax host and serial plagiarist Benny Johnson was so mad that “Lift Every Voice and Sing” was performed at this year’s Super Bowl that he demanded the hymn—often referred to as the Black national anthem—be made “illegal.”

The right-wing edgelord was grateful, however, that other conservatives were just as upset as he was about the “woke culture” on display at the big game, specifically praising GOP gubernatorial loser Kari Lake for refusing to stand when the song was played.

Johnson, who also serves as chief creative officer for MAGA student group Turning Point USA, devoted a good portion of his Monday podcast to railing against the NFL’s decision to play the song, which was performed by actress Sheryl Lee Ralph. (Her performance preceded both “America the Beautiful” and “The Star-Spangled Banner,” which was sung by country star Chris Stapleton.)

“Sports is woke culture, and it's really repugnant to me, and so I don't follow sports super closely,” Johnson exclaimed on The Benny Show, as first flagged by liberal media monitoring group Media Matters. “That being said, I do watch the Super Bowl for cultural moments like the Black national anthem being sung. How the hell is this even a thing?”

But I will say if it was just part of a ehole bunch of stuff, its a song great..

This song was created during the hostile climate of racism in the 1900s written by a black poet and a musician to commemorate the birthday of Abraham Lincoln; James Weldon Johnson and John Rosamond Johnson, two brothers from Jacksonville, FL. he wrote a poem about Black struggle and perseverance, it was ment to uplift. NAACP are the ones that coined it the Black National Anthem.

I suppose that nobody told anyone that Francis Scott Key who penned the Star Spangled Banner though initially a slave owner, as was a thing of his time (much like how being disrespectful, ignorant, etc. of others is predominant in today's society/times), become VERY heavily against slavery, FREED his own & his family's slaves and was part of the American Colonization Society that saw to the immigration of African Americans back to Africa.

Personally I don't find this offensive but at the same time where's

~ The anthem for the Chinese who were forced into building Americans railways many of whom were blown up working with dynamite.
~ The anthem for Native Americans who didn't just loose their land but their cultures, etc. & were forced into residential schools where abused, etc.

And many other anthems. Hell the Irish and Scottish were treated like shit by the English in coming to America, where's their anthem. Italians, Russians, etc. all the little "ghettos" in major cities that have long standing history were created partially due to same language & also due to harassment, discrimination, abuse, etc. by the locals

I don't give a shit. This is why I don't watch sports. My family watches sports all the time and I personally find it to be garbage. But not because of the Black National Anthem, more like because the cheerleaders they put out there are absolute "trailer trash" (note: I'm white, don't come @ me) and they are massive sex dolls. I don't know why people like Murican football soooo much. It's literally the sport of the devil. I don't understand how anyone can proclaim to be a Christian or Catholic and support the NFL, period

It's not a song I'm familiar with, so I've had a listen and googled the lyrics. It's not the best song ever written, but I've sung worse and it strikes me as a choir song rather than for a solo singer.
Without googling it I wouldn't have picked up on the black history side. It could be about any past struggle anywhere. If anyone finds that offensive they need to toughen up, it's not hard to find official national anthems with far more questionable lyrics.
