It's crazy to call it the "black" national anthem. It's not the anthem of all "blacks" around the world. Besides there are no "black" people. There are skin tones from very dark brown to very pale with infinite variations in between.

So this should be called the African-American anthem. But if we celebrate that, should every ethnic background in America have it's own anthem? Irish-American, Portuguese-American, Japanese-American, Swedish-American, Honduran-American, ...

I think this is part of the attempt to divide Americans against each other. Each group can then look at everyone else as "others".

In fact the black national anthem is about as stupid as black history month.

Let’s see….1600’s in America. Blacks in chains. 1700’s - blacks in America still in chains. 1800-1865 - still in chains.

Why are we taking a month to celebrate the extremely nominal achievements of blacks in America? They seriously haven’t contributed much in terms of technology, law, government or much of anything in American history.

Not that this is their faults. It’s kinda hard to achieve greatness when you’re being chased around a cotton field with a whip, and then once freed being chased through the corn fields by the KKK. Kinda hard to run for office where they were making blacks pay a poll tax to vote. I feel like this black history month is the equivalent of a parent think their child’s kindergarten diploma is a major life achievement.

Why not just focus on what they have achieved great success in? Like music. From Dizzy Gillespie to Dr. Dre, many, many blacks have arguably achieved greatness in the field of music…. except for the black national anthem, but I digress from my point. Sports also. So mostly pop culture but that’s about it. Again, they were very disadvantaged through most of our history but now have more privileges than any other race so hopefully they can add a meaningful legacy to the whole of American history.
