Why do people kiss or drink coffee or do anything without brushing teeth or get fresh first when they have just woken up in a TV scene?

American TV shows only have a very limited number of minutes to tell their story. They can't waste time on displaying perfunctory bodily functions, because that subtracts from the total time allowed for the program. So they eliminate those things, trusting that the audience understands that they are implied.

That's a great question. I guess they just want to show what's more important in the story. They need to be straightforward.

What would be the point? In the first place, it'd be a waste of time and film to show them brushing their teeth and, secondly, why brush your teeth BEFORE you eat or drink something? Who gets up first thing and goes to eat BEFORE taking a piss? But, they never show anyone having a piss on t. v., either!!

Adding a toothbrushing scene every time is expensive and uses up valuable screen time. It is assumed that this occurs.
