Why do some people always say blacks sold black people into slavery while conveniently leaving out the fact white people kept them as slaves?

its always some conservative that always says "black people sold black people into slavery" when ever reparations is brought up and yet they conveniently left out the fact that white people in america kept them as slaves and don't tell me the only a few number of people owned slaves when the percentage is higher.

You can lie all you want and try to downplay the severity of slavery, the fact is that the USA still owes reparations for slavery and I don't care if you don't want your tax dollars going to it, you don't get a say how the money is spent.

In 1860, the total free population of the United States and its territories was 27,489,561. A total of 393,975 people owned 3,953,760 slaves. That's 1.4% of the population that owned slaves, with an average of 10 slaves per owner.

However, if you exclude the North where slavery was illegal and just look at the states where it was allowed, you have 393,975 people in the southern United States owning 3,950,546 slaves, out of a total non-slave population of 8,280,490. That's 4.8%, or one in twenty.

Also, note that the total number of households in the Southern states was 1,466,192. If we assume that all the slaves in a household were owned in the name of the property owner — which is probably not 100% true, but close enough to give a good idea — then 27% of the households in the South owned slaves. So roughly one in four.

This percentage varied by area: in Mississippi 49% of white families owned slaves whereas in Maryland only 12% of them did so.

Correct me if I am wrong, but didn't blacks get 40 acres and a mule when emancipated? So they already got their reparation. Poor whites sure didn't get that. We are not responsible for the sins of our ancestors. If so then every scammer or thief's relatives should be responsible for paying back the store owner's relatives for their losses. I wish some people would stop spouting off about what everyone should get for reparations when it's past history that we personally have had no part of. Most of these rich blacks don't even help their own people. Even Obama didn't do anything to help anyone but himself.

People bring up that fact as a distraction because it’s inconvenient to talk about the the role whites played in slavery. It’s also why they like to point out that southern democrats started the KKK after the civil war. They’d rather talk about that than the Republican opposition to any and all civil rights reforms over the past 60 years. Yes, reparations were absolutely owed to former slaves. That debt was never paid, nor has it been made right to their descendants today because of the attitudes you see here in these responses. America is still a racist country that wants to avoid reckoning with its past. Reparations are not about “free stuff”. It’s money that was and still is owed for unimaginable suffering. There is nothing free about that. It also comes with a formal apology and acknowledgement by the federal government of its role in the sin of slavery. That is the most important part. The money is secondary.

I think people respond by saying that black people sold other black people into slavery because it is made to seem as if only white people perpetuated slavery. Regardless, in the conversation about reparations, it makes no difference. None of the people involved in any capacity are living today. No one is responsible for what their ancestors did.

I think about that same question you asked. I have no idea why whites use that excuse, I think they are just tryna cover their ass with it. It's like when you catch someone in an argument, they don't want to take responsibility for their ancestors actions and validate or condemn those actions. They are the same people that want to keep racist statues of confederate statues up glorifying white supremacists.
