Anyone getting fed up with kids committing suicide because of bullying?

A 14-year-old student was found in a California high school after having committed suicide by hanging. She had been missing from her home since the morning at around 6 am.

Police in Olivehurst found the girl’s body on the second floor of Lindhurst High School after getting a call from a staff member on March 30. The teen’s identity is not being made public.

Yuba County Sheriff Wendell Anderson told reporters that there is an active investigation going on. The Sheriff said the girl’s death shocked the 15,000-person small community, which is situated about 40 miles north of Sacramento.

“Today is traumatic for the whole community,” Marysville Joint Unified School District Superintendent Fal Asrani said.

The tragic event closed the school for the day.

Suicide is the second most common cause of death in California for individuals between the ages of 10 and 34. For people aged 35 to 54, it is the fourth most common cause of death.

It didn't say specifically what the cause of the suicide was because it is still under investigation, but you can bet your bottom dollar that being bullied was the cause. What do you think should be done to bullies that cause a suicide?

I see lots of rape/sexual assault victims that commit suicide because people don't believe them, or they think their life is over.

It may not have been bullying, it might have been someone attacked her and she did this to end her pain.

Bullying, if that is what it is, is also a problem and should be addressed. My high school had a resource officer that when things got violent would arrest kids if needed. Fights, whoever started it would be arrested, taken away and sometimes didn't come back.

Bullying often crosses from physical to online too. Swaying perceptions, a guy once said I had sex with him, when I couldn't even touch males due to my trauma. Trying to make people think I was bad but people knew he was lying.

I can only imagine how bad it would be if I had not been suffering from the inability to be touched by males at that time what others would of thought.

Bullying is a huge problem that should be stopped as I suspect that many mass shooters start out as someone who was bullied.

The worst part though that I've personally seen, is the parents come in to talk to school officials, screaming, yelling, being hostile and verbally abusive to staff. That their child is not a bully or if they are, it isn't a problem it helps others to grow and be better, as it helped them.

It is clear where the child gets bullying from.

I sure am, many people decide to end their lives. Sometimes those people decide to take out others in the process and then they are called mass shooters.

Most the time though they quietly go. How many more Audrey Pott's will there need to be before they take bullying seriously?

Physical bullying should not be handled by the school, the police should be called the same as if it happened off school property and treated the same.

Online bullying is a bit tougher for schools to handle, not sure they can do much there, but sexual assault or teasing, teasing is just another word for bullying just like I was joking, can't you take a joke?

If someone commits suicide because of bullying and it can be proven they were a victim, they should be charged with a crime. The existing laws don't cover what it should be, they should make a new law called death by bulling or something where someone can be charged with bullying that leads to someone else's death.

These kids need to be tried for assault because that is exactly what it is. If the school administrators would do their jobs bullying would not be an issue, I worked in a K-12 school system and there was a student that was being bullied by another student. This kid finally had enough and he cslled the cops and swore out a complaint for assault. The ciops came to the school and arrested the kid. He was 18 so he was considered an adult. The kids parents hd to tske time off work and hire and attorney and go to court. I am nor sure how it all ended up but I suspect he never picked on anyone after that.

It is really sad that it came to the point of her committing suicide. I was bullied when I was in Jr high school. One day I had enough and I beat the shit out of the bully. He had to be taken to the hospital after i was done with him. I got after school detention for 2 days. He was suspended from school for 2 weeks.
Nobody tried to bully me ever again. The other kids that he bullied finally had the courage to stand up and tell the principal what he was doing to them.

Schools aren't doing enough to stop the bullying. Nobody should take their life because of it.

The suicide rate has not increased significantly over the last 70+ years. It fluctuates over time. The only thing that's happened recently is getting back to normal after a recent decrease.

Blaming bullying is pure speculation. The large majority of suicides come from age groups that are highly unlikely to be affected by bullying. Teens and young adults actually have the lowest suicide rate of any age group from teens to the elderly. It might be a surprise that people over 75 have the highest rate. But I'm not sure that counts since it's probably related to devastating health problems and quality of life issues.

I'd say juvenile hall for 15 years, but you can't keep someone who is no longer a juvenile in juvenile hall.
So I'd say they should be charged with some sort of manslaughter felony and put on a prison work detail (chain gang) doing hard labor like forestry for 15 years.
They'll miss out on high school and college, and be branded for life as a murderer. By the time they get out, they'll be worn out and ugly.

by the way, Olivehurst isn't far from where I live.

I don't know if it was bullying for sure so none of the above. I’m more upset with the schools lack of security. With a population of 15,000 that school wasn’t very big in yet this girl went missing as wasn’t noticed at all until she didn’t come home. That’s a problem. There’s no telling what else goes on at that school but I wouldn’t want my kid going there.

All I know for sure is, that’s a prime place for predators to find unsuspecting victims to kidnap right off the property. They don’t even do security rounds around the property well enough. For all we know a teacher could’ve had something to do with that girls death and may have just made it look like that.

I don't think anything is going to change until they start treating it like what it is, an actual crime of harassment and assault. Until these bullies and their parents are charged, it'll keep happening.

What I don't understand is why a parent of a bullied child would ever send their kids back to the same place? I'd rather have my child home alive watching TV doing nothing than go to a school and get assaulted.

There was a lot of bullying when I was a kid, but if a bully took things too far usually a kid would get fed up and beat the bully up. Sometimes the bully would even end up friends with the kid who stood up to him. With zero-tolerance policies, children are no longer allowed to do this and in some schools can even get in trouble for defending themselves in a fight. We either need very tight surveillance and severe punishment of bullies, or we need to give the kids the freedom to defend themselves and look the other way when kids take a bully down a notch.

I totally hate bullying. I was the victim of it in elementary school to some degree. One start would be for teachers to have a discussion with students about how it is NOT cool to bully someone. The kind of thing where what if it was turned around and THEY were bullied.

Bullying happens cause nobody is perfect, and some people try to compensate for their shortcomings and imperfections in their lives by bringing down others, seeing others sad and miserable makes them feel better about themselves.

I learned this as a kid while I was being bullied, once you know this, call out bullies for their actions as such. If they become physical after that, punch them in the mouth

Bullying will always be a problem in schools, kids need to beat up the bully somehow, that’s the only thing that works, if it’s online bullying then they need to ignore it and notify the school, as far as punishment they never punish them for it if they are responsible but maybe they should and then it won’t happen as much

I have always despised bullies. A great punishment would be to plant a highly trained, younger kid, and have that younger kid flatten the bully when the bully does what bullies do. Perhaps harsh, but the lesson would do the bully some good.
