Women earn as much as men when they do the same job, have the same qualifications and tenure and work the same hours.

Men are assaulted at a far higher rate than women. Is that fair?

Is it fair that the vast majority of gender based scholarships and financial aid are for females when they represent 60% of college students and graduates at every level of higher education?

Is it fair that 98% of workplace deaths are males?

Is it fair that men have zero rights and choices in reproduction?

Is it fair that men don't even have the right to know they have a child?

Is it fair that the vast majority of homeless are men?

Is it fair that men are convicted at higher rates and get longer sentences for the same crimes?

Is it fair that 4 out of 5 suicide deaths are males?

Is it fair that only men must register for the draft?

Is it fair that society shames men for showing their emotions?

Is it fair that our public schools are tailored to female needs and not males?

Is it fair that none of the above inequities are taken seriously by society simply because the victims are not females?

I'll add another one. Male genital mutilation is normalized in western culture. The choice is made for males at birth, and in today's world it is very often made by a single mother who projects her own biases on her son, or makes the decision based on not wanting to deal with teaching an uncircumcised boy how to clean himself. Google it if you don't believe me.

Wage gap/spending gap most women make less than men mostly from personal decisions, but they also spend more than them.

Strong bias in family court that favors women over men.

Though women are more domestically violent and rape more than men. Men are much more likely to be convicted of these crimes. (60% of all domestic violence is reciprocal meaning both parties beating on each other. Of the non reciprocal women are 60% more likely to be the violent partner [PMC survey on domestic violence] also according to recent research as put forth in the book Women Who Rape Men John Davis, BA., J. D., LL. M women are actually more likely to be rapists)

As for equity, it is virtually impossible to compare the male and female experience. As a woman will never know ehat its like to be a guy just as a guy can't know what its like to be a woman.

Why do you think life is "supposed" to be "fair?" Why should that be guaranteed and who shuld be responsible for ensuring that it happens. If someone was born wih an attractive body, do they "owe" something to everyone who is less attractive?

Equality and equal opportunity doesn't necessarily mean equal outcomes. Biology is quite unequal in any case. Aside from child birth and nursing there is a lot more evidence men and women aren't the same. For example shortly after birth, baby girls show more inclination to look at faces but baby boys are more inclined to look at mechanical toys. Certainly male and female brains are different. Verbal processing is more centralized in female brains than male brains. Conversely for spatial tasks.

So if a particular job is well rewarded and requires high spatial skills than it isn't reasonable to complain the patriarchy deliberately excludes women. The reverse if a job requires high verbal skills. Men might orient to mechanical/spatial jobs and women to verbal/relating jobs. I have certainly seen IT girls quickly move from the highly technical jobs to customer facing jobs. Should we expect differently?

So lets carve that out biologic impacts as self obvious.

Is it fair that women earn less than men? Quite possibly it is when there isn't equal effort in general from both genders. Recently I watched a gender equality conference where a woman CEO of an IT company stood up and said she was not going to hire girls anymore because they don't work hard enough. They chat more and won't work back when necessary as the boys do. The women running the conference looked appalled a woman was saying this but their response was simply to move on quickly after she spoke rather than dispute her sentiments.

Certainly in my workplace experience in IT it is unusual to see the girls working back - even when there are unplanned outages. The girls are more likely to pack up at 5:30 and say I will look at it tomorrow. As a guy I am expected to work back as long as it takes to identify the problem and a rectification. Change control usually precludes fixing but I have to identify the cause.

Can we at least agree for equal earnings there needs to be equal effort and effectiveness?

In large corps and gov't there are pretty rigorous procedures on hiring and promotions and at least in that sector there can little to complain about as there is objective proof of suitability. It is not perfect because it is run by HR woman who will decide this month the correct answer to question X will be B instead of A which was so last month ago. Despite the inanities of HR everybody is pretty much on an equal footing in dealing with said inanities.

This can go on further but I will leave at that.

Your other point was street safety and I don't see that anyone can disagree that everyone regardless of gender should be safe anywhere at any time. Not feel but actually be safe is my only disagreement with you. A couple of years back I was assaulted entering my apartment complex. All I was doing was opening the common door but that guy was in a bad mood. Anyway I got to see how the criminal legal system failed to work.

This guy had a history of assaulting someone every five years on average. The prosecution presented the facts (but not with enough attention to not get them wrong). He plead guilty. The defending lawyer pleaded that only assaulting someone every five years was pretty good behavior when you thought about it. And he had a note from his Mom saying he was a good boy. Not from his Dad notably because he had assaulted his Dad too. It was a pretty serious assault as I was thrown down stairs in the finale. Fortunately I have a god given talent for rolling down stairs but I could have hit the back of my head or neck and be dead or a paraplegic from his bad mood.

He got 200 hours of community service making soft toys. Doubtless he outsourced that to his mom, girlfriend and sister and so did not incur any direct punishment at all.

We need to get rid of this concept that street safety is a female issue. It is not! It is an ordinary people issue (male and female) to be safe in public places at anytime. The way to do this is to administer genuine punishment for violence. Repeating it is not a female issue it is a people issue.

Among mathematicians, there is gender equality.
For the most part, there is gender equality in all STEM fields now. There are still episodes of sexism though.
I single out mathematics because the professional deliverable in mathematics (besides teaching) are proofs or other articles published in peer-reviewed journals like a SIAM journal. Since a proof is based on logic and mathematical principles, it is immune to subjectivities.

@Opinion Owner Even so, women earn 82 cents for every dollar men make. This 18% difference is the gender pay gap. Perhaps the solution is to tax men an extra 9% and give that money to working women. That would make their earning equal because men would earn 9% less and women would earn 9% more.
