They probably could have argued a lower settlement but that would mean Rupert Murdoch, Hannity etc would have to face perjury. Doesn’t that dampen their truth telling?

I don't think that much is really too much of a hit for Rupert Murdoch unless he's feeling it on a yearly basis, like if Besos and Gates had to soak that kind of damage for their interests.
Neither side is going to tell us the truth, much less the truth without bias. It's just a game where they both tell us they're doing their best while fucking us harder in their own way and cutting deals with each other.
Even taking a step back, a news corporation has to deliver the news, the paper is dead, and every other method of delivering the news has to go past our government through the FCC which can shut them down, so no "leaks" are getting delivered that no one wants seen. Everyone who works there needs to get paid, so they have a board of directors to report to. CNN, Fox, you name it, they have a direction to go in, it isn't some evil conspiracy, but their business.
If someone hired me for millions of dollars to beat a drum and yell about how titties are evil despite my love of them, well, damnit, I'll be preaching about how evil nipples are while banging that drum, it is what it is. We have no one to blame but ourselves if we create cult like followings behind these obvious manipulators.
The only solution would be to bring back newspapers, but I don't see that happening. They have enough time that they have more of a reason to get the news right, also low enough of a profit margin that if they offend someone with deep pockets, the damage isn't going to hurt as much as breaking a story would help.
Scumbags! Slimballs! Hopefully, it helps them sharpen their pencils and thus improves their accuracy, truthfulness, references, and disclosure and ends up drawing more viewers in the end since the other chanels avoid a lot of the real life issues they share due to media bias.
Bowing out was a bad decision to me, I'd rather they pay a billion and testify. They probably realize they got no shot at winning.
Will Fox move to Florida... I would...
Psssshhh, the day that lawsuit was settled, 6 more popped up. Imagine that, hmm? Something about lying and slander and making sane people out to be crazy that didn't sit well, so as someone said on the news, they best be unlocking that checkbook and having it at the ready because this "hush" money to keep people off the stand won't hold too long as one group has already said they intend to expose them further. Now whether that's true or not post court based settlement bribe to keep quiet, is yet to be seen.
You must be fun at parties.

They settle because management are liberals that play like they are Conservatives to get Conservatives money. They want the niche that was left out and liberal media couldn't get. There are only a handful of Conservatives there. Tucker is one. Laura is not a conservative and Hannity is not a conservative. None of the news people are conservatives.
The pillow guy will fight them all the way to the Supreme Court.
Can be but also the longer the court proceedings go the court fees and lawyer fees go through the roof so just cut your losses and move on.
Fox News learned their lesson to not BS people with lies at the expense of trying to damage the reputation of another.
They are FOX entertainment, and news is just another program.
Rupert has a further 2 billion dollar trial coming up
I'm sure there are a lot of reasons, but it's most likely a money thing. $787M is a big sum, but the thing about litigations like that is that they can get stuuuuuuuupid expensive. It's entirely possible that $787M saves Fox money.
Kind of funny how only right-wing people are being subject to justice while liars such as CNN and Joe Biden are getting off scot free..
It is natural for news organizations to tell the side of the news that supports their preferred people. CNN has had a light shown on them for that. But Fox outright lied over and over again because bottom dwellers want to hear good things for their bad people. Like you obviously do.
I wonder if they thought they would not get a fair trial. Companies like to just settle out of court just to put ot in the rear view mirror.
Insurance will help with settlement I believe and the rest will be less of a blow to their pocket book. But yes I think this case did hurt their credibility in a more substantial way.
Yea fox lied Dailywire was honest
Dailywire is Ben Shapiro company. He employs Brett Cooper, Candace Owens, Matt Walsh, Michael Knowles, Andrew Klavan. They tell the truth they are openly conservatives and admit their conservatives bias. And they’re willing to loose subscribers by not saying the election was stolen and tell the truth.
Distractions from the real issues at hand.
