Funny how you aren't calling for investigations of Congresspeople's well-known ethics violations/conflicts of interest or the untold amount of corruption surrounding the Biden Crime Family.

There is already enough of a problem with judicial branch independence in the US. Politicizing it further just makes it worse.

But let's be honest- this only came up because court-packing failed.

What would be the point they are a independent branch of goverment and you will never get 2/3rd of both houses to impeach any of them.

Congress and the executive has invested far too much power in the judiciary to intentionally allow such an upset.

The point is that the voters would see who supports the corruption and who does not.

I bet once Trump is on trial for all the corruption, we’ll see more republicans jump ship.

Though one Congressmen just endorsed him for president…

@goaded I would be willing to argue that most of them are quite corrupt simply because they are effectively unaccountable there is no reason at all for them not to be.

So what on Earth is the point?

Lets just acknowledge that all Federal judges are corrupt, and critically are not and can never be trusted faithfully upholding the Federal Constitution. This fact has been self-evident for most of the last 100 years!

As for oversight, that imply power to correct which simply does not exist in practice over the Federal court.

So you would at best be doing what we are already doing in watching their behavior and questioning their judgement. What on Earth is the point beyond adding a new layer of political corruption to such questions?

In a constitutional system, the way to check the court is simply to exercise your co-equal power to refuse to cooperate in due process of law. That means don't enforce their edicts. Don't arrest anyone who defies them, don't fund the arresting of anyone who defies them. Don't allow them jurisdiction.

This is what we have not been doing for the last 80+ years, while treating them as dictators.

@oddbeme It is funny how democrats like to project their own crimes on their political enemies.

Trump's short 4 years in office under the microscope left him almost no opportunity for corruption. Nothing compared to your typical politician's decades, let alone the 40+ years Joe Biden spent actively selling access to himself.

If such a trial proves anything it is to reinforce the fact that the modern 'justice' system is really just a arbitrary political weapon to selectively persecute Washington's political enemies and needs to be abolished.

I don't think you realize how loud and clear that message already is on the right seeing the 1 lopsidedness of the behavior of the town of 90%+ democrats.

"almost no opportunity for corruption" Apart from his daughter and son in law being given high government positions: 41 copyrights in China and billions in "investments" from the Saudis. Not to mention having the government (taxpayers) pay top dollar to stay at his hotels and resorts (Carter had to sell his parents' peanut farm in case he passed legislation that might enrich him).

@goaded Employing family members may be seen as nepotism not corruption. In Donald Trump's case as president it seemed quite wise given how regularly he was stabbed in the black by everyone who's fortunes are not tied to his own.
Likewise Hotel and resort usage is normal among presidents, as is choosing places to which the president is favorable.
Neither of theses habits distinguishes Donald Trump among the other 44 presidents.

As for copywriters in china and billions in involvement from the Saudis, neither of those are in any way unusual either and quite expected from a man who owns an international business empire. It would be more surprising were this not the case.
The Saudis have money in almost every business endeavor, and anyone who owns anything internationally needs copy-write in China.
If Trump were attached to such intellectual property he would never have started the trade war with china.

Nopotism is corruption. So is choosing your own hotels and resorts. And, yes, all of that was unusual.

@goaded I don't at all agree that nepotism is corruption for political offices. If it were most presidents would be just as guilty. JFK for example basically employed his family.

As for Hotel & resort selection its actually very common for presidents to prefer their own places to work. This is one of the reasons having a physical capital really does not make much sense anymore.

That Trump's happens to be top-notch businesses does NOT obligate him to cut a deal for goverment employees working for him. This is in no way shape or form corruption.

@goaded I will say @monorprise has a point with JFK and RFK. Just read more about Cuba, and I think they literally saved the planet.

But I do think it should be either illegal or specially examined.

@goaded We already been over security clearance, that is simply the executive branch headed by the president agreeing to trust you with secrete information on a need to know basis.

As such the president himself can give a clearance to whom ever he wants, all secretes in the federal goverment are his secretes that is the nature of the office and the whole point of the clearance.

In trump's case given how frequently he was backstab by other people it actually makes quite a lot of sense to employ people he find's qualified who's interest depend upon him IE family.

The fact that YOU don't think Kushner was qualified for the job didn't stop Kushner from making peace in the middle east for the first time in 80 years.
Obviously the kind of people you think are qualified is tragically wrong.

He didn't make "peace in the middle east", that's ridiculous. What he did manage was to get the Saudis to give him $2bn to "invest" (from which he'll be taking a percentage every year).

@goaded He got a peace treaty with Israel among the major Islamic parties. That is called peace in the middle Easts. He even largely crippled the palestine terrorist organizations.

The fact that they are up to their terror again is only due to Joe Biden bankrolling them with 'aid' again.

Oversight would result in investigations being opened, and closed by party affiliation. You'd be asking the investigators to be impartial which is the same you ask of the justices. If they can't, you think others will?
